Dania Beach is located on the Gulf of Mexico in Monroe County, Florida. The town was founded in 1892 by Anna Maria Dania and her husband, John Dania. The name "Dania" comes from the Basque word dani, meaning "holy place." In 1897, Anna Maria's brother Charles transferred ownership of a tract of land that included what is now Dania Beach to his wife Fannie. In 1903, Fannie's husband Augustus donated another tract of land to the town for development. This property includes today's downtown area as well as portions of both the beach and gulffront neighborhoods. The first post office in Dania Beach was established in 1893. It functioned until 1898 when it was moved to Pensacola. The first school for children in Dania Beach was opened in 1895 by Mrs. Neely and Mrs. Workman under the direction of Drury School Superintendent Atherton Wigglesworth Jr.. Dania Beach is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,643 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Miami-Dade County and part of the Greater Miami metropolitan area. Dania Beach's history dates back to Indianola Landing on what is now called Big Cypress Creek on November 12, 1795 by Spanish explorer Captain José de la Cruz and his expedition led by José Altuve y Borbón. The first permanent European American settlement in Dania Beach was founded in 1835 by Captains John Stroud and Augustus Kelley as Fort Brookeborough on Big Cypress Creek. In 1830s, Englishman Nicholas Long built a chapel and plantation named "Beach Point" near present day Dania Beach while working for James Fenton of Fort Lauderdale. This became an important commercial center during early 19th century America with its own Anglican church, grocery store and hotel. For many years it functioned as the primary port of call for British vessels sailing between Cuba andthe USEast Indies. A road from Ft Brookeborough crossed Big Cypress Creek near present day State Road 441 (now US 1) in 1836 which helped spur development around this point including the erection of numerous warehouses that still line the creek today despite being destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. In 1907 Jacksonville developer Hernando DeSoto bought land along Big Cypress Creek from Nicholas Long for $2 million making Dania Beach one of America's earliest planned communities. He renamed it "Dania Park" after his favorite wife Princess Alexandra of Russia who died unmarried at age 21 four months after her marriage to King George V of Britain on August 14th, 1901A year before she would have been eligible for succession to her father’s Russian throne through marriage under British law since her mother was a princess consort born into an unbroken Russian dynasty ruling over three dozen states across six continents. Named beaches throughout America soon followed suit with names like "Queen Anastasia beach",Spanish Bay" or simply "Bay". By 1930s almost every major U S county had a designated beach nameakeside nearly every state except Rhode Island where only Narragansett Bay & Castine were ever considered inland seaside settlements (later becoming towns). Today more than 50% of Americas coastline has some form of beach designation according to NOAA webpage . The popularity of these designated beaches quickly spawned popular sand volleyball courts , water slides and other formsOf recreation which continue to this day just beyond Panama City closer to Key Biscayne
