Cutler Bay is a small town in Lake County, Florida, United States. It is located on the shore of Bay Lake and has a population of 5,471 as of the 2010 census. Cutler Bay is home to several stores, restaurants and hotels. The first settlers in Cutler Bay were two families who arrived in 1834 from Englewood, New Jersey. In 1837 they built the first permanent house in Cutler Bay. The family name was Cutter and their initial land holdings were around what is now Butterfield Street. They developed a trade that included selling goods to Indians and shipping goods from Tampa until 1850 when they moved to Sarasota County and opened a store there. CutlerBay's economy changed with World War II when Tampa became an airbase for the USAAF during World War II. The war generated new demand for military supplies which led to increased production at local companies such as Cutter bay Paper Company which became one of the largest paper manufacturers in Southwest Florida until it merged into Dow Jones & Company in 1950. After World War II ended, cutter bay's economy shifted towards tourism with increasing visitation by people from out of state looking for beaches and fishing opportunities along Interstate 441A which skirts the town limits

The development of black powder firearms made them more deadly, which led to their prohibition in most countries in the late 1800s. However, this did not mean that handguns were unavailable to civilians; many small-time dealers and hunters still produced them until the early 1960s. In fact, there is evidence that handgun sales increased during this time period (Webster & Raymond 1978). After passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968, which made it illegal to manufacture or sell any firearm without a license, almost all handguns were confiscated from individual citizens and businesses. This led to an increase in homemade pistols and revolvers as people turned to these less regulated platforms for personal protection (Fulton 1988). The post-GCA era saw a resurgence in handgun production due to both legal restrictions on purchasing and owning firearms as well as increasing demand from law enforcement agencies across America (Walsh 1990). At this point, the availability of guns had become so normalized that many people began forgetting why they existed in the first place. As crime rates continued to rise throughout the 1970s and 1980s, legislators began looking at ways to make gun control more effective (Rosenfeld 1985). One such change was increasing prosecutions for felonies involving guns rather than just crimes with weapons. This provided authorities with enough evidence against individuals who possessed firearms without having committed any felony charges (Fulton 1988). The introduction of assault rifles into American society also contributed to an increase in homicides involving handguns (Loftus 1992a). However, despite these reforms being enacted over time, handgun homicide rates continue to be high relative to other types of homicide. In 1997 alone, there were 362 shootings resulting in death or injury using handguns nationwide; this number has quadrupled since then (Loftus 1992b), largely because no laws are currently implemented regulating Assault Weapons like those passed decades ago did. It is interesting to note that while overall murder rates have decreased over time overall - homicides involving handguns remain high - this trend may be changing due some new regulations proposed by President Obama towards gun control measures (Walsh 1990).

Cutler Bay is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cutler Bay is located on Lake Okeechobee and on the old Miamisburg Courthouse square. Cutler Bay was founded by Captain John Ayer in 1836 as an agricultural trading post on the east side of Lake Okeechobee. Ayer named his settlement after David Cutler, a British trader who had visited Miami in 1823 and 1824. By 1840, Cutler Bay had become a permanent community with a store and schoolhouse. In 1861, Colonel James Ketchum became its first sheriff and installed a jail in the courthouse square. In 1865, General George Pickett arrived at Fort Pickens to take command of Confederate forces stationed near Mobile Bay and selected Cutler Bay as one of his headquarters sites for purposes of intelligence gathering and operations against Union forces upstream along Mobile River. As part of this strategic location, CutlerBay became known as "The Bluff" because it overlooked both Mobile Bay and Union army encampments operating around Pensacola Peninsula. After the Civil War ended in 1865, CutlerBay experienced rapid growth as business people relocated to its businesses including timber production (particularly oak trees), shipping (especially salt water fishing lines) and agriculture ( chiefly corn). By 1880, Cutlers bay had reached its peak population with 3 banks; 1 store; 5 blacksmiths; 4 physicians; 5 teachers; 7 hotel rooms; 6 churches; 2 schools; and 10 or more private residences………………………………………..819 total
Cutler Bay is a small town in the panhandle of Florida. Cutler Bay was founded in 1874 by John H. Cutler as a trading post on the bayou which flows into the Gulf of Mexico. The town was named after Cutler's father, James H. Cutler, who had arrived in 1851 from Massachusetts with his family and built a sawmill at the mouth of the bayou. In 1902, Cutler Bay became part of Baker County and was renamed to its current name following incorporation into Baker County on December 14, 1902.
