The Cutlers were descendants of Captain John Cutler who sailed from England on the HMS Beagle in 1802 and explored Australia. The Cutlers were among the first Americans to settle in Florida and built a ranch here that became known asCutler Bay. In 1892, they started making triggers for handguns. They soon became well-known throughout the United States and Europe. Today, the Cutlers still produce high-quality triggers for firearms. TheirTriggerCo factory is located in Cutler Bay, just south of Jacksonville Beach. It produces triggers for shotguns, rifles, pistols and revolvers.

Cutler Bay is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The history of Cutler Bay begins with Indian traders and travelers on horseback in the 17th century. In 1821, an American military expedition under General Andrew Jackson arrived in this area and burned all but two buildings in what is now Cutler Bay after discovering Spanish treasure hidden there. In 1898, during World War I, the US Navy built a naval base here to serve as a training ground for torpedo boats. After the war ended, the navy closed down its training facilities here and moved them to nearby Key West. In 1957, Cutler Bay became a town when it merged with neighboring Port Maitlandville. The merger was approved by voters in a referendum; it had been proposed by then-Mayor Harry Sinkiewicz. At that time, Cutler Bay consisted of only one small square block bounded by First Street on the east side and Second Street on the west side of First Avenue South (now US 1). Downtown Cutler Bay was not developed until after 1990 when developer Don Blankenship began developing what would become known as "the Strip." One reason for this rapid growth was that much of downtown business district had taken place along Third Avenue south of First Street which bisected Cutler bay then ran north-south while Fourth Avenue crossed it between businesses on both sides just south of US 1/ Interstate 95 exit from I-95W which connected North Jacksonville to Miami Beach

It is home to several golf courses as well as some vacation homes which have been used by many wealthy people from around the world over the years including Gerald Ford who lived there while he was president of America. The town also played host to the 1988 Winter Olympics where it had 7 percent of all hotel rooms available but only shared occupancy with other nearby towns such as West Palm Beach and Boynton Beach due to lack of available space within its own boundaries
