In 1875, John Hargrave established Hargrave Bros., Contractors & Dockyard at what is now the corner of Baldwin Street and Neptune Avenue in Cutler's Bay. Hargrave was one of the early developers in Escambia County and his business became one of the most successful in its field. He built homes for himself and his family on some of his land which still stands today within walking distance of both beaches where he caught his fishing license starting from $1 per day! Today, Cutlers bay continues to be an important commercial center for Escambia County with many businesses located along its shores lines: From commercial docks to apartments dating back to the 1920s when Cutlers bay had just 4 residents (now there are over 100), Cutlers bay offers plenty for everyone! Cutler Bay is located on the St. Johns River, about 20 miles (32 km) north of Jacksonville and 30 miles (48 km) south of Tallahassee. The community developed around a wharf on the river that served as a commercial and military port for many years. In 1892, Cutler Bay became an incorporated town under the name of Prescott. In 1925, Cutler Bay became part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area; it continued to be an independent municipality until 1954 when it merged with Tallahassee to become part of the new Jacksonville–Tallahassee metropolitan area. The history of Cutler Bay begins with its location on the St. Johns River. The region was home to numerous settlements during its early days; one such place was Prescott which was founded in 1892 by immigrants from Massachusetts. The wharf at which Prescott developed would later serve as a commercial and military port for many years serving both local residents and travelers alike who used it for docking and shipping purposes as well as staging platforms for Confederate forces during the American Civil War. By 1925, Cutler Bay had become an incorporated town under the name of Prescott after incorporation efforts were successful thanks in large part to support from local citizens who saw potential in its developmentally challenged surroundings- something that would continue through much of postwar America's growth along this key waterway corridor In 1954, following merging with Tallahassee, Cutler Bay effectively became one entity with all property within its borders being united into what would come to be known as 'the Jacksonville metropolitan area'. With population totals reaching nearly 150,000 by 1970*, CutlerBay experienced rapid growth becoming one ofJacksonville's most vibrant neighborhoods* – quickly surpassing even neighbor Edgewater* whose population only reached 1001 residents at that time*. Today longtime resident are proud locals who call their hometown home & continue to contribute significantly towards its vibrancy & success story *
