Cutler Bay is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. Cutler Bay is located on the Gulf of Mexico, about 12 miles (19 km) south-southwest of Pensacola and 8 miles (13 km) east of Fort Walton Beach. It is part of the Panama City–Fort Walton Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 by John Cutler and his family. Cutlers were one of the original landowners in what is now Cutler Bay. The town name comes from Captain James Fenton's Cutterbay which landed on their plantation in 1788 during Governor Manuel López de Santa Anna's war against Spanish America. Cutler Bay has a full-time school system with five schools: Grades K-12 (grades 1-5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12), and Adult/Senior Academy (ages 13 and over). There are also two churches, First Baptist Church and Christ Methodist Episcopal Church, both serving as community centers for the townspeople. A small number of people also work at local businesses such as restaurants, retail stores, or shipping companies that provide services to the community. There are several parks located within walking distance of most homes in Cutler Bay; Pineapple Park features a playground, basketball courts, tennis Courts 2 & 4 etc., as well as a large pond stocked with alligators There are also several golf courses dotting the landscape including Ponce Course dating back to 1892 which offers challenging 9 holes for those who wish to play links golf; Westbrook Course opened up in 2009 offers 72 holes for players to enjoy; there is even an air conditioned baseball stadium called "Kenny Rogers Stadium" which hosted the first intercollegiate softball game played between Seminole State College and USF University on November 16th 1982

Cutler Bay is a small town in Florida, located on the Gulf of Mexico just east of Pensacola. Cutler Bay was first settled by people from England in the early 1800s. The area was known as "The Gut" for its many offshore islands. The first English settlement in what is now Cutler Bay was at Fort Caroline in 1819. In 1827, the British decided to abandon their fort and move their troops and civilians to Mobile, Alabama, so that they could build a new fort there. This decision led to the founding of Cutler Bay as an independent town by English settlers on August 10, 1827. From its inception, Cutler Bay had a strong Dutch presence as well. Many of the early pioneers were farmers who also worked at fishingboats or sold goods along the bayou. One such pioneer was John Barents who built a ferryboat service between Cuttler Bay and Pensacola beginning in 1845. By 1860, CutlerBay had become one of the most important commercial centers on Texas's Gulf Coast because it became home to two major shipyards: J H Mears & Sons Shipbuilding Company and A P Dahlgren & Co., both founded by Captain Alfred Pahlgren (1814-87). After Mobile seceded from Alabama in 1861, Confederate forces burned down both shipyards during the Battle for Mobile Beach on December 15th 1861. The loss caused significant economic damage to Jacksonville which soon after began construction of a replacement shipyard within three months - this time called Dahlgren Arsenal - making Jacksonville one of America's leading maritime cities during World War II (see Jacksonville Naval Shipyard timeline). After World War II ended, sea levels rose and cutting through what is now Cutler Bay allowed salt water to enter into inland areas where freshwater once flourished including mangroves that grew up around salt ponds created when weak spots in levees absorbed more water than intended causing tidal surges that backed up riverside canals/ponds until they overflowed creating today's wetlands/marshlands with extensive shorelines
