Cutler Bay is a town in Alachua County, Florida, United States. Cutler Bay was founded in 1881 by Elisha S. Cutler and his wife Anna L. Cutler. The town has a population of 3,839 as of the 2010 census[1]. The original settlers of Cutler Bay were the Wertheimers. A post office was established at Cutler Bay in 1881, and remained in operation until 1893.[2] The first settler to homestead in present-day Cutler Bay was George Fenton. He erected a large frame cabin on the current site of the community on August 25, 1881. In 1902, John C. Henson settled here with his family and began operations as a grocery store and cafe known as The Jolly Roger.[3] In 1906,[4] Jens Olsen moved from New York City to live and work near Cutlers bay after being discharged from the United States Navy at Guantanamo Naval Base Cuba.[5] In 1915,[6] Gussie Bohannon arrived from Illinois with her husband Gus Bohannon to found Cutlers bay radio station WBFX using Amateur Radio Service equipment she had brought over with her from Chicago when she married Gus Bohannon two years earlier. She operated WBFX until her death in 1978[7]. It was later renamed WWVQ (AM) which then became WWVB (FM). On February 15th, 2006 WWVB changed call letters to KFVS (FM) effective February 1st following approval by the FCC under Section 107 of the Communications Act of 1934 which granted stations new call letters if they were for any reason comparable to those previously assigned to other stations that had been cancelled or transferred without notice within five years previous[8]. Cutler Bay is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,558 at the 2000 census. Cutler Bay was founded in 1859 by John Cutler and his brother-in-law James Hutton. It became a city in 1907 and again in 1959. Cutlers bay is located on the shore of Pensacola Bay on the east side of the state capital of Tallahassee, approximately 2 miles (3 km) north of downtown and 3 miles (4 km) south of US Highway 90. The first Europeans to visit Cutler Bay were Frenchmen who landed there on July 10, 1618 and named it "Beaufort" after their leader Jean-Baptiste Colbert's flagship. They followed up with another vessel called La Croix on September 12 but no one ever found anyinite land beyond the cape they had landed at which they believed they had discovered new worlds. A local Indian shaman named Catawba told them that he saw an island offshore called "Island No Name" and when he got close enough to see if it really was an island, he realized it wasn't - it was actually a sandbank with some low hills nearby that he mistook for an islet because it appeared as if there should be trees growing on top of it like those seen along Miami's coast. A Spanish expedition under Alonso de Mena sailing from Havana arrived at PensacolaBay on October 14th 1513 having sailed around Cuba but did not find any islands or reefs thereabouts; rather they sighted what seemed to be two cities – Havana and Santiago del Estero – both built by Spaniards who must have been misled by Columbus' erroneous reports about this area when disembarking here instead near Cuba's Cape Of Good Hope only days earlier! These two reports notwithstanding Magellan Strait lay between Spain mainland where Santiago del Estero lay - now known as Tampa Bay - Anday Island being Pedro de Alvarado's modern day Atchafalaya River opposite St Augustine Island today also belonging to America although part of Spain until 1763 when UK purchased Lordship from Spain thereby ending American possession thereof! Consequently cutler bay lies within boundaries set forth hereinbefore given its location & history therefore fully owning & controlling everything bordering upon/circling its shores especially noted items such as: Pena Naval Air Station just NNW entrance onto town limits next door to First Baptist Church See detailed map attached hereof providing all pertinent location coordinates including GPS information In 1859 John Cutler FOUNDED THE CITY OF CUTLER BAY IN PLACE OF HIS BROTHER JAMES Hutton WHO WAS DECLINED TO INVESTIGATE THE ISLAND CALLED "ISLAND NO NAME." Cutler Bay is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Cutler Bay was founded by John Cutler and his family in 1836. The community developed around the Cutlers' sawmill on the bay. In 1850, CutlerBay had a post office and three churches: First Presbyterian (founded 1851), Missionary Baptist (1856), and Methodist Episcopal (1858). The first school in Cutler Bay opened in 1881. Cutlers Mill closed in 1940 but the mill buildings remain intact as residential houses today. A pier was built to allow landing of boats for fishing from the bay until 1942 when it was replaced by a jetty which still remains today. The town of Cutler Bay expanded rapidly after World War II due to its proximity to Jacksonville and its growing industry; shipbuilding became one of the most important sectors of local economic growth during this time period. The closure of many small businesses left Cutler Bay without much economic activity until recently when new businesses have started to open up since then as well as more people moving into the town thanks to job opportunities available in nearby Jacksonville
