Crestview is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Dade metropolitan area. The first settlers in Crestview were two families who arrived on horseback from Mobile, Alabama in 1835. They named their community after their hometown of Creston, Illinois. The area around present-day Crestview was swampy and uninhabitable due to lack of permanent water sources. One early settler, John Denton, agreed to sell his land for $100 to a group of men led by Philip Hustedt. They built a cabin on what is now Government Street and named it "Huston". In 1838, members of the Hustedt family donated 2 acres (0.8 km2) of land east of Government Street for a courthouse and schoolhouse that would be known as "Creston". The first courthouse in Broward County was built on this site in 1839; it later became known as the Broward County Courthouse Annex. In 1840s two other frontier families – the Kusters and Fergusons – came to Crestview from Kentucky with their own children and livestock and began farming the land around present-day Crestview Lake immediately west of Huston Cabin. These pioneers were responsible for developing much of what is now Crestwood Village and also founded Pembroke Hall School which still operates today as one of four public schools serving students from prekindergarten through twelfth grade in Coral Springs ZIP code 33066

The first settlers in Crestview were white men who arrived during the Seminole Wars. They built a cabin on land that now makes up corner of Sunrise Highway and Old State Road 4A. In 1892 they organized what would become the First Civic League in Crestview to promote self-reliance and betterment within their community. In 1907, George Widespread donated land to build the Crestview Elementary School which became one of the first public schools in Polk County. The school was originally named for his father-in-law, General John Wesley Hardee who had died two years earlier. In 1927, Mrs. Juana Avila donated $5,000 towards construction of a new high school which became known as Miami Valley High School after her home county in Florida was divided into three sections: Miami (Dade), Hillsborough (Hernando) and Orange (Osceola). When it opened its doors for classes on September 25th 1929 it was one of only six high schools statewide and one of only three in Sanford County! In 1933 President Franklin D Roosevelt made CrestVIEW one of ninety U.S towns selected to participate in FDR's New Deal program known as "The National Recovery Administration". This program aimed to provide temporary jobs to Americans during hard times by creating new businesses and providing resources such as capital equipment and labor training programs

In 1916, Crestview established its own school system, and by 1920 it also had its own post office. During World War II, Crestview played an important role as a manufacturing center for military materials. After the war, Crestview experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Orlando. However, the population declined in the early 21st century as residents moved to new neighborhoods or left because of economic troubles.
