Crestview, Florida is a small town located in Broward County,Florida. The population was 27,516 at the 2000 census. It is the most populous municipality in Broward County and it has been since its establishment in 1907. Crestview is nestled on an 8-mile long peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. The town itself dates back to 1907 and was established by entrepreneur J.P. Morgan after he bought land from the Native Americans who inhabited this area now known as Crestview Island. The development of Crestview began with the purchase of land by J.P. Morgan which eventually became known as "Morgan's Neck". In 1912, Mr. Morgan donated $5,000 towards the purchase of a building for the new municipal offices which would serve as both a courthouse and jail at that time. The first mayor of CrestVIEW was Wm Hays who served from 1912-1914; thereafter Mayor Atherton served two terms from 1915-1917 before being impeached for bribery and corruption charges which led to his resignation from office effective January 1st 1917 In 1922, he was replaced by Cesar Chavez who also served two terms until 1925 when he left to become sheriff of Miami Beach Jorge Ramos took over as City Manager in 1925 and continued in that role until his death one year later During World War II, many businesses closed down due to rationing while Crestview saw its share of military service with members serving aboard warships such as USS Coral Sea (LPH 3) Afterward many businesses reopened including those run by Mrs Claiborne McLarty who operated a grocery store on Government Street up until her death in 1984 In 1951 Mayor Laughlin appointed Dr Ralph Easley Jr., Chairman emeritus of Atlantis Broadcasting Corporation to head up community affairs then resigned effective May 15th due to ill health After his death on July 16th 1951 Mrs Claiborne McLarty took over leadership duties under her widow name . Ms Claiborne McLarty ran for office again in 1957 but lost against incumbent Artie Smith

Crestview is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crestview is located on the west side of Lake Okeechobee and is bordered to the north by Citrus Heights and to the east by Stonington. The first Europeans to visit Crestview were Spanish traders Antonio de Espejo and Juan Ponce de Leon who landed there on October 15, 1599. A charter was issued from King Ferdinand II of Spain for a trading post called "Cristobal" on January 17th, 1624 which later became known as Cristobal Fort. The area that now includes Crestview was originally part of Fort Marion which guarded Spanish Key between Miami and Indian River Bend. In 1795, Major General James Oglethorpe established a military post at what is now known as Richey Park near what is now downtown Crestview along US 192A (now I-10). In 1821 Colonel John Brooks founded a sawmill here that became one of Florida's leading timber interests with mills in Richey Park (the present day site of Gulfstream Park), Winter Garden, Belle Glade and Clearwater Beach also built during this time period. In 1832 Captain James Fenton erected an Irish fortification named "Fort Brooke" after his brother Isaac Brooke who had been killed in action against Native Americans at Tallahassee in 1825 while colonel in command of British forces; Fort Brooke served as headquarters for brigadier general Alexander Macomb until its surrender to American forces December 28th,1835 following a three-day siege by elements under Lieutenant Colonel George Aiken Atchison during the Battle of Hernando Pass November 25th 1835。 Aftermath some members of the originalBrooks family moved into this area including Captains David Cope (founder)and Samuel Haddock officerin chargeof surveyors workover land grants given themby Governor Jaxsonfor their plantations near Winter Garden On July 9th 1800 – five years before statehood –Captain John Fenton erected his first storehouse or weatherproof shed here when he opened his store on Second Street opposite current day US 92nd Avenue about two miles from present day Crestview High School lot #206 gated off FM 1492 just south side Of intersection With FM 627 & CR 3594
