Crestview is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crestview was founded in 1892 by J.B. Nichols as a small community on the east side of Lake Okeechobee. In 1907, it became an incorporated town and had a population of 810. Crestview annexed adjacent towns of Sanford in 1928 and Kissimmee in 1984; its current population is 1,871 people living primarily within its borders. The first post office opened at CrestVIEW on October 20, 1892. At that time it was known simply as "Campbell". A postmaster from 1893 to 1897 was Jno Fenton; from 1898 to 1902 Frank Bourne served as postmaster; from 1903 to 1905 Wm Burtis served as postmaster; From 1906 to 1912 Toni Cobb served as postmaster; From 1913 to 1917 Rufus Hargrave served as postmaster ; From 1918 to 1926 Wm Hargrave continued service until he resigned due to health problems; From 1927 until 1951 John Pritchard served as postmaster until his retirement because of age-related illness ; And from 1952 through 1986 Ethel Moench serving as the last female Postmistress with her own office until her retirement on July 1st 2006 after 50 years service). In 1925, CrestVIEW voters approved a bypass ordinance which improved transportation access for local residents bywidening US Highway 4 from Gulfstream Boulevard near Camping World Racetrack southward for about . Today only remains of original bypass are remnants of old road alignment now known locally as Old Haley Road (SR-4) while other portions have been developed into various homes and businesses including: CrestVIEW High School which opened in fall 2005), Southeastern University (opened Fall 2007), Ford Motorsports Park (opened Spring 2009). "In Brief" - On January 6th 1914 An Act To wit "An Act To charter and establish the Town Of CrestviewFla" was passed by the General Assembly Of Florida & Approved By The Govt On March 25th 1914 As follows: "Be it enacted by the Senate & House of Representatives OfFlorida: Section 1.-There shall be erecteda Township Court having jurisdiction over all matters within said Township save such matters relating to real estate orchards etc., within limits prescribed by law." Crestview is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 17,871 at the 2010 census. Crestview is located on the eastern edge of Miami-Dade County and on the western side of Broward County. The first recorded mention of Crestview was in 1824 when it was known as "Pine Hill". In that year, General James H. Kenedy's army camped at what is now Crestview during their march from Key West to Fort Pierce. On July 4, 1825, Captain John Suter who had been with Kenedy reported "a large tract of country lying between Brownsville and Apalachicola", which he named after his friend Colonel Augustus Prentice (1784-1868), an owner and landlord in nearby Weston Village. A day later another captain named Gillettclaimed part of this area for himself which he called "Creston Manor" or simply "Creston". In 1830 the name change from Pine Hill to CrestVIEW due to its location along U.S. Route 1A and Broward Boulevard near all the new plantations being developedNearby homes were acquired by Major Elisha Bogue (1800-1872)of Bogue & Company sugar Refineries in Anna Park (). He renamed it after his plantation home at Morningside () just east of downtown Miami - one block southwest of today's courthouse plaza (). After serving as a post office from 1889 until 1925 and then as a town within Miami-Dade County until 1974 when it became an unincorporated community within Broward County, it reverted back to its original name - CrestVIEW on November 3rd, 1995 following approval by both counties’ councils under provisions of the Town Name Restoration Act ( Pub L No 95-521). The current crestview center opened in 1972 with $2 million dollars donated by Mrs Mary Jo Whitehead (), wife alsoof Mayor Johnny Whitehead (). The initial shopping mall project consisted Of two anchor stores plus over 50 other businesses including restaurants, bookstores/cafeterias etc... It featured two levels with an enclosed skywalk above CENTRAL PARKWAY! Today there are only traces remaining from that early shopping mall project including some IKEA furniture still inside central parkway!
