In 1934, the city passed an ordinance that banned handguns without a license from any person over the age of 18 years old. The ordinance remained in effect until 1959. In 1960, the City Council repealed the prohibition on handguns and passed an ordinance allowing pistols to be possessed by those with a permit from the sheriff's office only. This ordinance remained in effect until 1978 when it was repealed by Mayor John Gantt due to NRA protests.
Crestview, Florida is a small city in Broward County, Florida. The population was 36,353 at the 2010 census. It is within the Miami metropolitan area and has a total area of 1.22 square miles (3 km²). The town began as a cattle station and post office in 1855 on the site of present-day Crestview Mall. By 1907 it had developed into an agricultural center with works farms, nurseries, butter factories and other businesses. In 1925 Crestview became part of Miami Beach when that municipality was created from parts of South Miami and Harbour Island. The annexation of much of North Miami by Coral Gables led to a loss in population during World War II; however, since then Crestview's growth has resumed handsomely as its central business district has become one of South Florida's most vibrant communities.

Crestview is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1892 by farmers who named it after their crest—a white horse with red mane and tail. Crestview became an agricultural center during the late 19th century as a result of its location on the Miami/Ft Worth Railway. The first post office in Crestview was established in 1892. The name for Crestview changed several times before being chosen as it is today: from Bellefontaine to Beechcroft to Bearden to Brentwood Heights. In 1912, the town had a population of 100 and was incorporated as a village. In 1951, Crestview became a city when it annexation passed through Miami-Dade County's legislature and voters approved amended charter provisions granting city status to any municipality with a population of over 5,000 people within two years of incorporation without first applying for state permission. The history of Crestview can be traced back to 1892 when farmers discovered saltpeter mines on what is now known as White Sands Boulevard just outside of town limits. They named their new community "CrestVIEW" after their crest—a white horse with red mane and tail that could carry goods up high into the mountainside mine fields beyond the towns boundaries). The original settlers were hardcore Methodists who built churches and schools in CrestVIEW until they were driven out by Indians during the Seminole Wars (1836–1845). Afterward many local men took up farming; one such individual was John Aiken who purchased 640 acres near present day Coral Gables east of White Sands Boulevard in 1881 which he then donated to CrestVIEW trustees for use as an agricultural college farmstead known as "Aiken's Ridge". By 1907 there were 8 farms associated with Aiken's Ridge; these included 3 mills run by Mr. & Mrs Hoke which manufactured flour, oats, milk etc., 2 sawmills operated by Jethro Cooks & Sons which made lumber (now part of Marathon Insurance), 1 blacksmith shop operated by Wm Purdy & Bros., 2 stores each operated by Fenton & Slaton (later Dunning Hardee) - all now long gone - 2 schools including one soon converted into apartments - all now long gone too! Today only 4 houses remain on Aiken's Ridge Estate which are still used for research purposes or holiday homes! In 1912 CRESTVIEW attained cityhood status when voters approved amendments to Miami-Dade County’s charter providing City Status To Any Municipality With A Population Of Over 5K People Within Two Years Of Incorporation Without First Application For State Permission! This event helped bring about much economic development including numerous factories and businesses opening throughout Broward county creating thousands jobs along with retail outlets (including two Subway franchises) becoming popular tourist destinations not only within our own community but also neighboring jurisdictions like Boca Raton and Margate
