As handgun popularity continued growing throughout World War I (1914-1918), ammunition manufacturers began developing new types of projectiles specifically designed for handgun use called “shotguns”; these projectiles had greater range than traditional pistol round projectiles (they could travel up to 100 yards) allowing them to hit targets farther away than traditional pistol round projectiles could (i.e., they could penetrate barriers). Crestview is a town in Osceola County, Florida, United States. It was incorporated on July 1, 1887. The population was 10,727 at the 2010 census. Crestview is part of the Kissimmee–Hollywood area. The first settlers in Crestview were John D'Aquilla and his family who arrived from New York City on November 30, 1837. They built a cabin near what is now the intersection of Northwest 7th Street and Northwest First Avenue. D'Aquilla died in 1840 but his wife Anna remained in Crestview with their four children until her death in 1865. She was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery where she has a headstone that reads "Anna D'Aquilla mourant à Crestview 1864". John's brother-in-law Nicholas Guglielmo moved to Crestview with his family on January 2, 1845; he had been born in Italy two years earlier while his father was serving as captain of HMS Famine off Sicily during the period between blockade and liberation from Spanish rule. Guglielmo married Anna's sister Catherine (Nicolà) della Valle when they landed at Ponce de Leon Bay on December 12, 1843 and settled near what is now Third Avenue and Northeast Second Street. From this location they operated a small store which grew into an important trade center for local farmers and merchants before being destroyed by fire in 1861 due to faulty construction techniques used by their builders.. Nicholas Guglielmo later became one of Osceola County’s first political officials when he served as clerk of courts from 1865 until 1870 then again from 1871 until his death as Supervisor for Miami Township from 1886 until 1889 after which time there was no Republican Party officeholder elected anywhere within Osceola County save for Miami Township boundaries until 1912 when Manuel Key ran for office as a Democrat against incumbent Grover Cleveland… In 1898 CrestVIEW lost its charter because it did not meet financial requirements set by the new county government; however it regained full charter status on October 3rd 1903 after meeting all financial requirements... By 1910 CrestVIEW had 9 churches including 4 Roman Catholic Churches (St Josephs Parish #1 & 2; Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Parish #3 & 4), 5 Baptist Churches (First Baptist Church #1 & 2; Methodist Episcopal Church #3 ; Presbyterian Church USA #4), 1 Congregational Church (#2), 6 schools: 3 public schools (grades PK-12th), 3 private schools (grades 7-12th) and 1 graded college: USF Polytechnic Institute located just south of town limits making it one of only two towns in Osceola County with both high school diplomas/level III programs sanctioned by the state… Today there are 8 churches including 4 Roman Catholic Churches (St Josephs Parish #1 & 2; Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Parish #3 & 4), 5 Baptist Churches (First Baptist Church #1 & 2; Methodist Episcopal Church #3 ; PresbyterianChurchUSA#4); 1 Congregational Church (#2); 6 schools: 3 public schools (grades PK-12th), 3 private schools (grades 7-12th) and 1 graded college: USF Polytechnic Institute located just south of town limits making it one of only two towns in Osceola County with both high school diplomas/level III programs sanctioned by the state…Today there are over 100 businesses including 20 restaurants, 12 banks*, 15 pharmacies* * note: none have been open since December 2017
