Crestview is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 23,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Crestview was James Witherspoon who arrived on July 8, 1839. He named his community after himself and his brother-in-law, Colonel James Fenton. In 1845, Captain John A. Sitton built a sawmill on the east side of Fort Lauderdale River just north of present day Crestview Boulevard. In February 1912, Brazilian immigrants José Rodrigues and Manuela da Silva founded a grocery store and bakery called "Rua dos Postes" (Street of Posts). They also ran a newsstand and did market gardening for local farmers until their business failed in 1922. They were replaced by Percival Hirst as owners/manager of "Rua dos Postes", until he sold it to Silas Best in 1923 which led to Best's Brewery starting up in 1927 called Best's Brewster Inc.. In 1933 Donny Larkin bought Best's Brewster Inc., renamed it Coral Gables Brewing Company (laterBroward Brewing Company), and opened its first brewery - North Bay Brewery - on Northwest First Street across from Fort Lauderdale High School now known as Parkland Memorial HS... later that year ownership changed hands again when Harry Kaltenbach became president of Coral Gables Brewing Company and moved brewing operations from North Bay Brewery to New Headquarters at 5800 SE Loop 820 (now South Beach Blvd.) next door to then Evergreen Gardens shopping mall... By 1938 all five breweries had been closed with onlyNorthBay left operational... After Kaltenbach's death controls passed through his family to Harry Payne Whitney who operated North beach Brewery until it closed in 1979; then it passed back into private hands before being reopened as Broward Brewing Co./Coral Gables Brewing Co." During World War II many businesses increased production due to patriotism or shortages caused by the war including Hollywood Pictures which produced films such as 'The Japs Are Coming!' ', 'Tojo' ', 'Oskar Blues' ', 'Christmas With The Luftwaffe' etc.; American Motors; Raytheon Aircraft Corporation; Gulfstream Aviation Corporation; Hughes Aircraft darned out parts for B-24 Liberators used during World War II; other factories producing aircraft parts such as Curtiss Dayton Flight Test Center near Plantation Pass Rd.; Lockheed Martin Missile Division at Clearwater AFB;; United States Rubber Manufacturers Association plant near Belleair Drive West]; two hospitals one being St Petersburg General Hospital while Ft Pierce General Hospital was closed down due to lack of funds but reopened under new management by HCFA under military control soon afterwards becoming Palm Beach County Health Care System....Today Crestview has a strong cultural heritage with many residents regularly participating in arts & crafts shows throughout the summer months including Jazzfestivals held every September & October downtown & several art galleries scattered throughout..... Many people also commute into nearby cities such as Miami or Deerfield Beach for jobs.......There are still some small businesses operating today that contribute greatly to the cityscape including: Rangemen Thai restaurant which offers deliciousThai food from scratch daily since 1978; Newsagent store located next door specializes mostly in English newspapers dating back over 100 years; Cafe del Mar with great coffeebeans available 24/7 from pods provided by roasters on site while also serving light snacks like paninis etc.; Petsmart closeby provides pet supplies plus dog walking services....... Today CrestVIEW is home to both an excellent public school system comprising six elementary schools along with three middle schools along with one high school providing learning opportunities for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade...... Additionally there are four churches within 10 miles................. Crestview is a town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,948 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Key West Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in Crestview were two brothers, John and James Eddy, who arrived on May 12, 1851. They found 800 acres (30 km²) of land and built a cabin near what is now the corner of Third Street and First Avenue. The Eddy brothers were also the first to patent a settler's claim to this land: interest on $1 per acre sold until 2022 had been paid off by 1865. In 1853, one year after arriving in Crestview, James Bogue purchased 640 acres (24 km²) from John Eddy for $5 per acre ($100 total). This purchase marked the beginning of Bogue's ownership of land within Crestview limits. In 1857 Bogue married Sarah Easley; they had six children together before her death in 1861. In 1862 David Haines purchased 640 acres (24 km²) from John Eddy for $5 per acre ($100 total). David Haines was later elected as sheriff of Escambia County and served from 1865 to 1870; he is also known for being one of the few county commissioners to serve more than two terms. He next bought 640 acres (24 km²) from Josephine Aiken for $5 per acre ($100 total), which formed the nucleus around which today's business district stands - this property would be renamed "Ridgewood" after his daughter Josephine married Drury Ridgely Sr., owner of an adjacent farmstead that became known as "Ridgewood Farms". Haines died unmarried in 1875 and left his land largely unsold until 1886 when it was acquired by Jno Lyle Whitehead for $10 per acre ($200 total). Whitehead operated a grocery store on Main Street until 1912 when he sold all his assets including the store to Harry Davenport Jr.; Davenport would rename it "Crestview Mall". In 1916 Haines' son-in-law Rufus Meeks opened a general store on Second Street which would become Girdersleeve Drugs & Hardware located there through 1978 when it merged with Pensacola Grocery Co.. Today's Vallejo Supermarket occupies much of that space back then! Finally in 1938 Mrs Florence Sellers establishing her home at 5th Ave & Meridian St., just north east corner 2nd St SE across street from Girdersleeve Drugs & Hardware @Valley Rd.. From here she ran various FLM services starting in 1946 thru1993 thru1998 thru2002 thru2005 thru2007 thru2010

Crestview's growth continued into the 1930s, thanks to its annexation by Jacksonville in 1933. In the 1940s, Crestview experienced heavy World War II occupation and development, with many new businesses being built in response to the war effort. After the war ended, Crestview began to decline as a result of natural attrition and aggressive marketing from nearby Jacksonville. However, some revitalization efforts during the late 1990s and early 2000s led to a resurgence of interest in Crestview, which is now considered one of Florida's most vibrant communities.
