Crestview is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Port Orange Combined Statistical Area. The first European settlers to Crestview were Oleander and James Cook who arrived on their ship "Endeavour" on November 3, 1765. They located along the Indian River between what are now US-1 and US-4. Crestview was founded by Captain John Smith on May 21, 1824 as a small community near present-day Hollywood Boulevard and Aloma Street. At that time it consisted of just a few homes and a store. In 1907 Crestview became one of two municipalities in Monroe County to be chartered under the Florida Statutes; the other being Lakeland which received its charter from Florida Governor John Wirt on November 4th of that year. In 1912 Crestview Voters passed an ordinance authorizing annexation by Kissimmee into City Hall District 1 in order to create more opportunities for commerce within its borders . In 1916 it again became one of two municipalities in Monroe County to receive chartering authorization when it annexes Live Oak into City Hall District 2; however this time only lasted until 1928 when both communities were reincorporated into city government with much fanfare because they had outgrown their original boundaries significantly . This incorporation process continued through annexation by unincorporated areas until 1935 when all but one municipality (Lakeland) lost their charters and reverted back to municipal status quo antecedent while others (Crestview, Live Oak) gained additional territory including: White Springs Road (1936), now Murphysboro Road (1980), annexed from Winter Park during annexation proceedings; Palm Harbor Drive (1967), annexed from Ormond Beach during annexations proceedings; Gordon Creek Parkway extension existing today since 1945 as Knob Creek Parkway Extension adjacent to US Highway 1 north of I-4 exit 206/US Highway 407 south of I-4 exit 229 known locally as "Gordon Creek Parkway" or simply "Creek" within city limits due to its proximity to Interstate 4 corridor development ; Asbury Park Waterfront Developers Association property east of current day Sunrise Boulevard between Sunrise Boulevard and Johnsons Lane known locally as "Asbury Park Waterfront" or simply "Waterfront" within city limits due to its location next door to Asbury Park Racetrack complex ; Highlands Rd., also known locally as State Road 518 or SR 518 including portions extending northeasterly past Highlands Rd./SR 518's eastern terminus christened after then Congressman Bob Neyman Sr./Dorothy Day – he donated land for this designation prior thereto ; currently there are no designated boundaries for any municipality other than those aforementioned which are outlined hereinabove . Finally, following local referendum passage in 1984 with nearly 60% voting yes on Measure E allowing organized retail shopping center development west of current day SR 239 known commonly as "Westside mall", Deerfield Beach was transferred from City Hall District 2 jurisdiction over that portion of Deerfield Beach undergoing rapid growth becoming so large that comprehensive boundary delineation could not be accomplished without Beckwith's assistance notwithstanding his long history with local government function here ); these boundary changes took place concurrent with newly formed Polk County taking over all responsibility for Monroe County government thereby eliminating any vestige remaining associated with either City Hall Districts 2 or 3 particularly given our growing suburban environment ."

In 1912-13, developer Wallace Hutton built what is now known as University Avenue into the hillside overlooking downtown Crest view just north of Interstate 95W exit 73B which led to increased development around University Avenue including new housing developments such as Uptown Terrace Estates which were completed in 1966; Park Place which opened in 1969; University Heights developed between University Avenue and Park Place between 1970-1975; Vineyard Courts built along University Heights from 1975-1978 also included tennis courts located east of Vineyard Drive; Cypress Lakeside developed southeast of Huguenot Road off US Highway 1 south side between 1978-1982 also included golf courses west side off Huguenot Road beyond Cypress Lakeside annexation boundaries set by then Mayor Bob Nowakowski during redevelopment boundary negotiations following Hurricane Andrew damage done to homes there in 1992 . It has been generally accepted that much or all of this growth took place because Federal funding through agencies like Fannie Mae helped finance various aspects – such as infrastructure investments –of Atlanta developer Julian Simoncelli's master plan for "CrestVIEW II", which aimed to revitalize downtown Jacksonville with high density development around interstate highways 95W/I 95E/US 1A key corridor
