Crestview, Florida is home to the National Ammunition Museum. The museum is located in a former ammunition plant on W. Gaines Street. It was founded in 1978 by then-Mayor of Crestview, Don Armstrong and Dr. James Ahern, then-director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Atlanta Headquarters. The museum has an inventory of more than 5 million rounds of ammunition from over 200 different manufacturers. The building that house the National Ammunition Museum was built in 1922 as the Armstrong Arsenal on what is now Calhoun Boulevard. In 1938, the armament manufacturing firm Dillon, Read & Co., which manufactured artilleries including artillery shells and machine guns, bought the Armstrong Arsenal and moved its operations to Crestview. Today’s NRA museum opened in 1978 as part of a broader redevelopment project which also included an addition towing Yards at nearby I-95/U.S.-1 and new housing for workers at Gadsden Air Force Base (now Fort Walton Beach). Since 1978, when Mayor Don Armstrong established the National Ammunition Museum here in Crestview, many local names have been given to this important place: “Armour Park” or simply “The Arsenal” because so much ammo was produced here during those years (the first factory opening was actually on US 1). From 1898 until 1922 all Armour Manufacturing Company products were made here; most notably Shellac powder used for raglan clothing and other items such as shipbuilding paint jobs ashore during World War II! The company closed its doors permanently after WWII but not before leaving behind quite a legacy; today’s Armory displays some 123 000 rounds of ammunition from over 200 different brands!

A Spanish military fort called Fort Santiago was built in 1793 along with other forts around what would later be called Kissimmee Valley after José Ortiz y Ortega y Gasset who served as Governor of Havana from 1792 to 1800; this area contained present day Clearwater Key and much of what is now Orange County including Sanford and Winter Park . In 1827 costumed explorer John Wesley Powell explored the Alligator River region between Clearwater Key and Daytona Beach while exploring US 1 north from St Augustine In 1886 George Washington Cogswell purchased land east of Kissimmee City limits that eventually became Crestview when he married Anna Maria Devers; she had been born in 1847 near Jacksonville Crestview's growth accelerated during World War II due to its proximity to military installations around Kissimmee and Daytona Beach where thousands of men worked on defense plants such as Lockheed Martin Aircraft Co., Douglas Aircraft Co., Raytheon Missile Company, Gulf Oil Refining Co., Ford Motor Company etc Afterward many farmers moved out into farming but Crestwood continued becoming an agricultural center with many farmers working in nearby plantations such as Everglades Agricultural Experiment Station run by Southern Plantation Company until 1949 when they leased land from Citrus Fruit Growers Research Foundation for use as a research plantation

Crestview is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Crestview was J.F.Bennett, who arrived in 1892 and donated land to the community for its incorporation as a town on February 28, 1893. Bennett's donation included a tract of land north of State Road 508 that still forms the backbone of Crestview today. In 1896, Pee Wee Keynes purchased 1/4 mile (1 km) of what is now US 27 from J.F.Bennett for $500 and laid out his subdivision called Keyside on it in 1898; it became known as Crestview after him and remains so today within the limits of present day Crestview Township.. In 1906, Wm Halsey bought 1/2 mile (0.6 km) east of US 27 from Pee Wee Keynes for $100 and laid out his subdivision called Harbour View on it in 1908; it became known as Harbour Heights after him and remains so today within the limits of present day Harbour View Township.. In 1912, Harry Burdick laid out 2 acres (0.80 hectares) east of US 27 along Fenton Boulevard between FM 647 and FM 725 which became known as Burdick Park after him; this area also retains its name to this day within the limits of present day Burdick Park Township.. In 1925, Clyde Ritchie laid out 4 acres (1 hectare) north side Sopwith Avenue between SR 508 and SR 513 which became known as Ridgefield after him; this area also retain its name to this day within the limits of present day Ridgefield Township... In 1951, Raymond Latham sold 10 acres (3 hectares) south side Sopwith Avenue between SR 508 and SR 513 to Mr./Mrs.(unknown first name), who turned it into an open-air shopping mall with a parking lot that would later be renamed Gulf Coast Mall by them... In 1957, Mrs.(unknown first name), through her husband(s), conveyed interest in 9 tracts totaling , including 10 acres (3 hectares) west side Sopwith Avenue between SR 508 and SR 513 which they dubbed "The Woods" due to their location near some ancient oaks that formed part of their plot... The tracts were divided into two portions: one portion went to Willis Reed Trust Company while another portion went to Mrs.(unknown first name)'s children underlease agreement... On January 12th 1958 Presley Easley Sr., president emeritus & trustee emeritus at Willis Reed Trust Company met with Mrs.(unknown first name), her husband(s), wife(es)-in-law(es), daughters Darlene Easley & Lisa Reed at Gulf Coast Mall where she agreed upon providing fertile ground for about 100 palm trees that would eventually become Crestview's main street .
