The first permanent European settler in Crestview was Capt. John Smith who arrived on July 6, 1775 and named it "New Town." In 1836, the town became known as "Boca Raton" after Boca Raton Creek which flowed near the present day intersection of US 1 and CR 158. In 1892, residents voted to name their city after General Pershing who had been killed during World War I at Anacostia River Bridge west of Washington D.C.. The City Council approved the name change on November 5th and activated the city's first flag on December 12th. The current crestview flag features a blue field with white stars above a buff border in honor of General Pershing's service with US Troops during World War I.

Crestview is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. The first settlers in Crestview were two farmers named Grimes and Moody who arrived in 1836. At that time Crestview consisted of just nine homes, all built on a small creek that flowed through what is now the downtown district. In 1839, John Grimes donated land to make way for a school and courthouse which later became the nucleus of Crestview's commercial district. By 1860, Crestview had developed into a thriving community with over ninety homes and businesses. In 1892, Arthur Llewellyn published "A History of Polk County" which included an account of his trip to Crestview where he met William Bowers who offered him land for cattle raising purposes on what is now known as State Road 7E (now US 192). After surveying the property and making some design changes, Bowers donated it to the county for use as a courthouse square. It was only after years of effort by many people that this project was finally completed in 1912 and named in honor of Judge Edmund Ruffin Pyle (1863-1943). During World War II much activity took place within or near Crestview due to its strategic location as one mile from both Fort Brooke airfield and Camp Blanding radar installation operated by the Army during World War II. One such development was The Brink grocery store opened in 1946 adjacent to Camp Blanding which served as headquarters for many military personnel stationed within or nearby rancho des Sales until 1949 when it closed down due to lack of business opportunities outside Ofnaheat Park while other stores flourished throughout postwar years including being reopened again during 2000-2002 Hurricane Ivan! It should be noted that not only did these establishments thrive but also many individuals who contributed greatly to their success such as Mrs..Linda Weems (1925-2005), Mrs....Mary Kapp(1945-2009) & Mr....Gary Hevesi(1960-present) all men who have been actively involved with running these businesses ever since!
Crestview was founded in 1887 by J.P. Ligon and Wm. Harker as a small town on the St. Johns River in central Florida. The town grew rapidly, becoming an important trading center for local farmers and ranchers, and its location made it an attractive spot for settlers seeking to develop new land in the region. By 1912, Crestview had reached its peak population size, with over 1,000 people living in what is now the town Proper. However, economic difficulties throughout the 1920s led to a decline in Crestview's property values and population. In the late 1990s, however, redevelopment of downtown started to take shape and today Crestview has regained some of its former commercial and housing prosperity.
