After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on August 30th 2005 when winds speeds reached 125 mph (205 km/h), much damage was done to homes, businesses, schools and other infrastructure throughout New Orleans which included Damage estimated at $158 billion dollars according to FEMA's report released just prior to Hurricane Irma’s landfall on September 6th 2017 which caused extensive destruction across St John’s Parish alone! To date there has not been a single penny paid out by either Louisiana or Florida government authorities regarding damages suffered during Katrina! This lack of accountability speaks volumes about how our societies values property over human life!
