Coral Gables is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is the most populous municipality in the county and has a population of over 202,000 as of 2018. The City of Coral Gables was incorporated on November 5, 1926. The city's first shooting took place on October 10, 1927 when three people were shot by two men who had been waiting for their friends outside a local bar. There have been shootings in Coral Gables throughout its history, with the most recent being on May 20th, 2019 which left one person dead and six injured. There have been several types of protection available to shooters in Coral Gables since its incorporation. The first type of protective equipment that was commonly used was shotguns only. Shotguns were not designed for use with large rounds such as rifle rounds or pistols; instead they were limited to small calibers like .22lr and .25ACP. As time passed, newer types of protection became available that made it easier for shooters to shoot safely using firearms. These new methods included muzzleloader safety devices (MDS), closed-circuit video systems (CCVS), sound cannons and barriers/cages/doubleshot stocks/guards/stocks that allowed shooters to shoot while still wearing clothing or other protective gear

Coral Gables is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 94,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Coral Gables is bordered by Biscayne Bay to the north and east, the Miami River to the south, and Cutler Creek on its west side. The name "Coral Gables" originated from two things: a white coral that grew plentifully on an island in Biscayne Bay and a group of gabled houses built for wealthy American expatriates in early 20th century Cuba who took up residence there after fleeing Spanish rule. The white coral became known as "the coral string." The name stuck and was used throughout much of what is now Coral Gables until 1945 when it changed to reflect where most of the residents lived before they resettled – in this case, within close proximity to what are today considered the original gabled houses in Coconut Grove Heights. When developer Efrem Ziegfeld bought land adjoining his dance academy near Coconut Grove High School in 1926 he called it "Coral Gables." He wanted people living nearby so they could see him perform - which he did often at his dance studio on NW 8th Avenue across from Coconut Grove Park (now part of Goodyear Common). By 1930 or 1931 almost all of Ziegfeld's properties had been purchased including what is now downtown Coral Gables. When he died in 1934 his children decided not to continue development but kept some assets such as Rolling Hills Estates which still stands today as one of Coral Gables' most popular areas for shopping and dining. In 1945 Ziegfeld's heirs sold their stake back to Efrem's sons who continued developing Rolling Hills Estate into present day Coral Gable proper with its own golf course and many high-end homes dating back to the 1920s-30s
