The area now known as Cooper City was first settled by Scots-Irish Protestants in the early 1800s. As other colleges began incorporating professional institutes into their curricula over time and enrollment increased on campus – such as law school (in 1914), engineering school (in 1928),psychology school (in 1957) – Rollins School became well known throughout South Florida for its variety and quality Programs in Professional Studies. Cooper City, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 133,569 at the 2010 census. It is the ninth most populous city in Miami-Dade County and the eighth most populous city in Florida. Cooper City was founded on October 15, 1919 by John W. Cooper as a small town named for his uncle who had died earlier that year. In 1924, the name of the town was changed to Cooper City after its founder's death. The population grew rapidly until the Great Recession hit in 2007–2008 and then again in 2009–2010; it has since shrunk back to its pre-recession level of 132,844 residents according to the 2016 Census Bureau report. The history of Cooper City begins with John W. Cooper Sr., who started farming near what is now known as I-95 and Utopia Parkway in 1919. He named his farm "Cooper City" after his uncle who had died earlier that year while serving in World War I overseas. By 1924, John W.'s son John W Jr., had taken over operations on the farm and renamed it "coopercity". In 1928, he opened a grocery store called "John's Grocery", which became one of Miami's earliest shopping destinations for families during its early years as a settlement located along Biscayne Boulevard between SW 7th Avenue and NW 5th Avenue (now called Bay Shore Boulevard). It wasn't until 1939 when business began booming thanks to Henry Jaffe's construction of an expressway through Dania Beach connecting Miami with Key West that downtown areas such as Collins Park emerged and Cooper City quickly became an important commercial center within Miami – even hosting its own weekly newspaper known at the time as "The Daily News". In 1941 USAAF officer Verna Capps bought 2 blocks northwest of current day Midtown Center from developer Harry Siegel for $1 million dollars making her one of Americas first suburbanites eager to inexpensively build homes outside urban centers - pavingthe way for suburbs like Coral Gables/Miami Beach/Fort Lauderdale to become popular throughout much of South Florida during World War II due largely to wartime shortages unique to South America – including building materials like aluminum alloys which were hard to find else where due largely to WWII Axis military activity along South American coasts!
