Classes started on September 3rd of 1888! Today it remains one of the most iconic features about this community – its mix of Gothic Revival architecture with Collegiate Gothic details – as well as being an excellent example of early 20th century education reform! In 1938 Dr Prentice Amis opened his new drug store and pharmacy located at 401 East Sunrise Highway in what would eventually become known as Amis Pharmacy Park (now part of Walmart). This establishment became one of the largest drugstores west Of Interstate 10 until it closed its doors in 1984 when Sam’s Club moved into the space next door making it just one large anchor tenant among many anchor stores throughout downtown Miami…Today you can find remnants Of Amis Pharmacy Park all around Downtown Miami including behind One Kendall Center where Walgreens now occupies space
Cooper City was founded in the early 1800s by Captain John Moran. The town is named for John Moran, who donated land to the town. The first post office was established in 1825 and is still in use today. In 1868, Cooper City became a city and was renamed to Jacksonville. In 1933, Jacksonville merged with Miami Beach to form Miami-Dade County.
