Cooper City is a city located in the U.S. state of Florida, on the Cooper River. As of the 2010 census, its population was 66,898. It is the fifth-largest city in Florida and is among the fastest-growing cities in America. The city is named after Andrew Cooper, who donated land to build what would become Cooper City. The first permanent settler in what now Cooper City was John Hogg, who founded Hogg's Creek Colony on November 3rd, 1837. From this colonyhough many small villages sprang up over time due to easy access to water and good soil, only two buildings remain from that original settlement: Hogg's Ferry House which still stands today and the Schoolhouse which was demolished in 1951 but has been rebuilt several times since then as a home for various churches and community groups; Cooperstown (now known as Old Town) began to form around this schoolhouse with businesses popping up along Confederate Boulevard such as a printing press and grocery store owned by John Jukes which became one of Cooper City’s earliest landmarks. Banking started early on here too with people opening their own banks before Morgan Guaranty Trust opened up shop downriver later on in the 1800s The growth of town came about because of transportation needs when it became clear that getting goods across those long narrow rivers was going to be tough; eventually railroads were built into town creating more opportunities for business development As businesses flourished and people commute into town for work or entertainment things like housing began becoming available In 1905 Drury & Company opened up their largest store anywhere at 597 Union Street becoming one of town’s most iconic buildings until it closed down decades ago just south of I-4 near Gulfstream Park

Cooper City is located on the Gulf of Mexico at (30.048, -87.813). The first people to live in what is now Cooper City were Creek Indians who crossed over from Alabama in search of new land to hunt and use their own hunting techniques not known to the Europeans then living in what is now Escambia County. These Creeks came upriver from where Mobile Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico and built small villages before moving out into what today are various parts ofEscambia County including Indian Shores, Monrovia and most notably Cooper City which they named for John Cranch, 3rd Baron Lonsdale who owned much of present day Escambia County when it was organized as a county in 1835 A year later Captain James Cook sailed by and named this area "Cooper" after Lord Lonsdale's father-in-law Sir John Hawkins but no one knows for sure why he chose "Cooper" instead of "Lonsdale." The first white settlers arrived around 1845 when Colonel Jesse Hickey established himself at Indian Shores with his family Marylander wife Ann and their two children Jedediah (1846), Solomon (1848)and Lucy Bemis Hickey (1850). This group purchased 160 acres (60 km²) along Clearwater River just east of present day Cooper City from David TeagueMcKnight who had acquired it near Panama Springs on October 10th 1844(the date so often identified as today's dateline). In 1850 Judge Samuel Davenport became involved with the community when he bought 120 acres adjacent to Clearwater River from Colonel Jesse Hickey giving him an interest in all current land within town limits.(Today's Old Courthouse Square). In 1857 Major General Zachary Taylor ordered Brigadier General Elijah Steele to put together a force consisting onlyof mounted men under command of Captains George Troup & Nathaniel Noyes Jr.(now Mr./ Mrs.)to attack Mobile Bayou between Coopersville Plantation on its mouth north side and Spanish Fort on its headland west side which would enable European shipping access to Alabama without being boarded or stopped by American Navy blockade runners operating offshore during that period called Coast Guard Patrols; these patrols were also meant as protection against pirate activity off Mobile Bay The expedition failed disastrously due to heavy rains during their journey upstream while en route meeting local Native Americans resistance along way; soon after returning home Steele met Governor Lowrynde aping Taylor's order(this particular attempt may have been motivated by fear that if US forces succeeded then Spain would gain control over MobileBay resources making them vulnerable both politically & economically)& having learned aboutGeneralTaylor'sordersheminstructedaforce consisting primarilyofmountedmenundercommandofCaptainsGeorgeTroup&NathanielNoyesJr.(now Mr./ Mrs.)toattackMobileBayoubetween Coopersville PlantationonitsmouthnorthsideandSpanishFortonitsheadlandwestsidewhichwouldenableEuropeanshippingaccesstocAlabamawithoutbeingboardedor stoppedbyAmerican Naval Blockade RunnersthatwerealsomeantasprotectionagainstpirateactivityoffMobileBay
