The first store in town opened in 1927 on Northwest Fourth Street downtown and served as a local post office until 1934 when it moved to Southeast Third Street downtown. In that year, the first telephone line went up in town with service available to all residents via phone through BellSouth until 1978 when it changed hands again and became Comcast Cable TV services only. The original Farmers Insurance building still stands today (now operated by AIG) on Northeast Fourth Street across from the old Post Office building which served as a bank before being sold to an insurance company in 1984 and converted into apartments later that same year In 1951,cooper City voted to annex nearby Parkland which at that time had a population of just over 2,000 residents On November 15th 1957 Cooper City's incorporation took place under special exception due to Hurricane Auggie with populations of just over 1,500 people flooding into what were once small towns easting Jupiter River where most businesses closed early due to lack of food or water supplies . Despite some challenges such as high crime rates (due primarily to its location) combined with limited highways access during those days Cooper City fared well throughout 1959 thanks largely inparticular to new development around Loch Raven Boulevard including several upscale shopping centers becoming home to various restaurants/bars/nightclubs known collectively as "the Loop". That decade saw also significant growth for both private schools located within proximity including Miramar High School now homeported inside one large centralized school complex while Coconut Creek Intermediate School relocated there making it possible for students living near Miami Lakes Elementary School or Suncoast Lamar High SCHOOL ( clustered together forming Coral Gables) now have similar educational opportunities regardless of family income levels . Today many descendants of these early pioneers still live within boundaries established by law long after they left town
