The first mention of Cooper City occurs on March 16th 1892 when Jno Pogue wrote about "a pretty little town" called "Cottonwood". This town was located east of present-day Jacksonville on the then-new State Road 431A. It was established by John Wesley Cochran after he bought 350 acres near what is now known as Wilson Boulevard and Indian Creek Boulevard in 1876 for $2,500 cash plus $25 per acre ($125 per mile). Cochran named his new town after his father-in-law who had died earlier that year while traveling through eastern Tennessee with General Andrew Johnson's army during the American Civil War (1861–65). In 1905, one hundred years after Cottonwood was founded by John Wesley Cochran, Cooper City became a city when it annexed neighboring municipalities of Plantation Hills and Dunlapville. In 1907 it added West Miramar to its rolls; however this annexation did not take place until 1912 because West Miramar was part of Jacksonville at that time. According tothe 2000 Census,[1] there were 27% African Americans living in Cooper City when it peaked at 48% Latino/Hispanic descent[2]. However this percentage has decreased over time due to competition from other areas within Monroe County for black employees and housing development among African Americans who have moved away from rural poverty stricken neighborhoods into larger cities such as Jacksonville or Tallahassee since 2000s.[3][4] The 2017 Uptown census found only 17% African American residents living within downtown boundaries while 25% Hispanic residents resided within same boundaries according to unofficial data compiled by Univision Miami News Services & Research LLC., Inc., revealing an overall trend where Hispanic migration outstrips white migration inside urban areas throughout SouthwestFlorida’s most populous county [5].

Cooper City, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 21,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Cooper City was founded on December 17, 1926 by Dixie Carter and her husband Marshall Fields. The two moved to Cooper City from Fort Lauderdale in 1925 and opened their first store there. In 1931, Cooper City became an incorporated town with a population of 20,000 people. On February 11, 1936, the name of the town changed to Cooper City after Harry S. Truman won the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Election as President of the United States and becamethe first U.S. president from Illinois (and also from Missouri). The name reflected its location within Miami-Dade County and Truman's ties to that county as a homeboy while he was mayor of Chicago during World War II In 1958, Hurricane Ike struckMiami-Dade County causing extensive damage including entire blocks being destroyed in downtown Cooper City which had been abandoned for years due to lack of damage insurance coverages The total loss for both Cooper City businesses and homes was estimated at $2 million In 1961-1963 three hurricanes hit Miami - Wilma (a category 4 hurricane), Rita (a category 5 hurricane) and Georgina (a category 3 hurricane) - all resulting in major damage or loss across much of South Florida All three hurricanes caused significant economic losses for all affected communities
Cooper City was founded in 1901 by entrepreneur and civic leader, J.P. Morgan. The area had been used for hunting and fishing camps until the early 1800s, when it became a center for citrus production. In 1902, Morgan purchased land in what is now Cooper City from the Seminole Nation and began to develop it into a small town. He named the town after himself, James P. Morgan. The first store in Cooper City opened its doors in 1903. Over time, other businesses followed suit, making Cooper City one of the most vibrant communities in Florida at the time. The economy of Cooper City changed dramatically during World War II when the war brought large numbers of military personnel to the area and created an new demand for housing and goods produced by local companies. This led to a dramatic increase in business activity as inhabitants turned their attention to rebuilding their homes and businesses following the devastation of war-time Germany and Japan. Businesses such as Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo) grew rapidly during this period; part of what made Cooper City so successful was its location within easy reach of major metropolitan areas nationwide. In 1957, Jacksonville’s designation as a city made CooperCity one of Jacksonville’s primary suburbs; this change led to an increased focus on education and development within the community while also preserving many aspects of its unique culture which has helped keep CooperCity thriving over these years
