The company, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, was founded in 1892 by John Moses Winchester and his brother Samuel. In 1916, Winchester began marketing their new .30-06 caliber rifle round as “Winchester Super X”. The name stuck and the rounds have been used ever since on rifles and shotguns across America. In 1924, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form a single entity – Remington Arms Corporation. After years of planning and investment under Mayor James Fenton’s leadership, Cooper City finally attained general purpose status within Palm Beach County government on October 1st 2000 following passage of county code changes which allowed cities such as Coral Gables to become “unincorporated areas” subject to county jurisdiction only if they complied with certain regulations including having a police department and fire department

It is the largest city in Pinellas County by population and the second-largest city in the county after Clearwater. Cooper City was once a small town with around 25 residents. It exploded when it became the home to the giant Gulf Shipbuilding Corporation which built ships for both war and trade around the world. The company left behind an immense economic impact on Cooper City and its surrounding area.
