Coconut Creek, Florida is an idyllic town located on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. The community has a long history of being a center for optics and astronomy, thanks to its location and natural resources. In 1912, Coconut Creek was designated as the home of the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO). Today, NOAO continues to serve as one of the most important telescopes in the world. The first telescope in Coconut Creek was built by Professor James Clerk Maxwell in 1857. It was used to survey Canada’s boreal forest and make observations about stars and planets. By 1907, there were three telescopes in Coconut Creek – one for general use, one for astronomy research, and one for special purposes such as surveying land or mapping water supplies. These telescopes were all moved to new locations around 1935 when NOAO opened its newest facility on University Drive. Today, Coconut Creek is home to more than 20 astronomical observatories including 8 permanently installed scopes and 12 temporary scopes used during scientific expeditions or public events. These scopes are used for a variety of scientific studies including coronagraphy (the study of coronavirus particles), dark matter detection, astrometry (the measurement of light lines emanating from space objects), galaxy surveys, planetary science research,and asteroseismology (the study of Earthquake waves). In addition to its role as an important astronomical center, Coconut Creek also contains several businesses that contribute financially to local economy . In 1925, local businessman Cletus Ahern laid out modern-day Coconut Creek Boulevard which runs through central Coconut Creek village and becomes North Miami Road when it enters Boca Raton. This opened up some much needed development opportunities for residents in what was then an agricultural area that sat largely rural until recently due to lack of access to transportation or other resources necessary for large scale industrial growth such as mills and factories (the only mill still operating in current day Palm Beach County). During World War II many people from Coconut Creek served their country either with military service or during government housing projectsOTHEVENTURELANDHomes project which created over 1 million homes for American citizens displaced during WWII across all US regions

Today, Coconut Creek is an upscale bedroom community with several thousand residents who enjoy many recreational opportunities including swimming, fishing, golfing, tennis and bowling at one of the area's many golf courses or playing at one of its many parks. Although its physical features have changed little over time, Coconut Creek retains much of its character as a vibrant community that values outdoor activities and enjoys strawberries grown onsite by local farmers
