The town was founded on an estate that was once part of Miami-Dade County. In 1906, Fenton Craddock donated land to the town for its incorporation. The first store opened in 1907 and the first home was built in 1908. Coconut Creek has a rich history that includes several famous residents such as singer Bobby Vinton and model Kay Adams. The Naval Air Station "Lance" is also located in Coconut Creek.

Coconut Creek is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,827 at the 2010 census. Coconut Creek is east of Orlando and south of Tampa. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in Coconut Creek were two brothers named George and Ebenezer Cook who arrived on horseback from Georgia in 1824. They built a cabin on what is now Fourth Street near US-1/SR-441 (now US-17) and raised chickens and pigs until they decided to move in 1830. In 1833, they married Anna Maria “Minnie” Berryman and started a small grocery store next door to their home on Third Street which remained open until 1909 when it was replaced by the present day Walmart Supercenter. In 1835, John Crain bought land northeast of Coconut Creek from Fedallah ibn Hassan al Jabal for $2,000 cash plus five slaves then known as the Island Company of America or ICA). He built Crain's Mill on current site of Gulfstream Park Boulevard between SW 2nd Avenue (now Military Trail) and NW 3rd Avenue (Now SR 710), eventually expanding into citrus production with his own seedlings planted along Streamwood Rd., just north of where he located his millrace creek beds today; this helped lay the foundation for coconut groves that still populate much of Coconut Creek today including Mrs. Collins Nursery off SW 2nd Ave., also one of our oldest nurseries operating under an organic banner! By 1840 however, sugar cane had become an important factor within village life with some buildings being erected around this time such as Palmyra Plantation house belonging to Captains Mosely & Hickey who ran cattleraise out there before moving inland to Stonington later that year - all evidence points towards early sugar plantation operations taking hold hereabouts! The following year saw Gov't purchases totaling over 6 lots totaling in area now occupied by both XTREME mall etching applied @ $200 per acre for lot #4 adjoining £135 per acre Lot #5... these purchases allowed access along Tamiami Trailupee Fields line now called CROSS ROADS connecting FT MIAMI GARDENS with OGDEN RD beyond... soon afterwards new homes began sprouting up throughout downtown areas like CSX Railroad Station complex southwest corner flag pole field lot surrounded by PINELLAS PARK likewise bounded by Second St., EAST DRIVE NNW corner MANSFIELD PKWY & CROSS ROADS crossing 1st Ave.... similar developments took place throughout town limits areas near First AVE WEST & Main Sts thenceforth enjoying Freshwater Lake frontage beyond Lakeshore Drive extending northerly past Villa Park Blvd.: herein resides our unique Town History! This rich history begins long ago with Indian Settlers coming through here looking for fresh water.. henceforward many businesses have been established within walking distance or less such as Mrs….Zoology Museum also located within easy driving distance but few if any have retained their Elm Street address even though we continue to enjoy fine architecture dating back to THAT ERA! Today’s community began developing rapidly during late 19th century growth thanks largely to numerous military installations: Ft Myers received its first post office in 1889; Camp Chase Army Airfield opened nearby in 1917; Eglin AFB opened just west of town in 1939; Fort Walton Beach got its first airfield – Convair Field – mere miles away in 1940 after decommissioning from NAS Pensacola.. These additions only made things better because they brought jobs and income that fueled development further while at the same time providing opportunities for resident families to get involved politically especially given how close these installations were… ensuing commerce thrived while residents enjoyed good quality schools closeby as well as easy access to conveniences such as hospitals etc making life very comfortable indeed!!! Today’s community has maintained much of its architectural heritage including many old homes situated close together some dating back over 100 years!!!
