Coconut Creek is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population as of the 2010 census was 12,848. It is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coconut Creek has a rich history dating back to 1873 when it was settled by Cuban Americans on half a million acres of forest and swamp land just south of Coral Gables. By 1905, coconut plantations had been replaced by cotton plantations and the town gradually dwindled until it was effectively destroyed by Clearwater Beach bombing on December 2nd, 1946 which destroyed most of Coconut Creek’s homes, businesses and churches. Although many people were killed or injured in that attack, the town slowly rebuilt and today its economy is based largely on tourism with some manufacturing capabilities as well. The name “Coconut Creek” first appeared in print in 1873 when two brothers named Joséfín and Manuel Rivera decided to name their new community after a palm tree they saw growing near their home on Culebra Key. Their father also helped rename the place Clearwater Key after his hometown in Cuba where he had been born several years earlier. The key plantation where these founders first set up shop soon went bankrupt so they moved to another location but they kept using the name “Coconut creek” until 1884 when they finally trademarked it under the name Pineapple Key Incorporated (PKI). In 1907, PKI added Coconut Grove – then an all-male enclave – as one of its neighborhoods along with other areas such as Doral and Sunrise that would eventually become parts of Coral Gables proper during World War II because those strips of land between Biscayne Bay and Miami were needed for military purposes (see map below). At this time, Pineapple Key also boasted an extensive phosphate mine which produced around 2700 metric tons/year at its peak in 1945; however due to overproduction Coconut creek saw little use aside from being renamed for local celebrities like Joe Garofoli who played professional baseball there starting in 1916 In 1957, PKI merged with nearby Culebrakey Plantation which itself had been founded in 1902 by Harry Laughlin who became president & CEO of United Fruit Company (UFC) later known as Citrus Corporation PCLCO bought UFC’s interest in Culebrakey Plantation effective October 1st 1959 thereby unifying pineapple production within one company This gave PCLCO ownership over more than seventy percent of all cultivated acres worldwide making them oneOf The World’s Top Five Pomodoro Producing Farms They continue To Make Headlines Today!
