In 1855 Congress appropriated $5,000 for an investigation into navigation problems along Pensacola Bay resulting in the establishment of the Panama Canal Company with a concession from Spain for 10 years providing navigational access between Callao on Peru and Colón on Panama through present day Cocoanut Grove on December 7th 1870. On November 16th 1885 Senator James Korda introduced Senate Bill No 1184 proposing annexation by Duval County under provisions set forth in Article XIII Section 3(b) Constitution providing: 'No county or municipality may be annexed without its own charter being granted by law'. This bill was referred back to committee but never got off paper until 1893 when Representative Jarvis organized House Resolution No 977 asking President Grover Cleveland if Duval County should become part Of Miami And He Intended To Answer That Question January 1st 1893'. On February 5th 1893 Cleveland said YES!Duval County became Miami County effective March 4th 1893 By Order Of The President From Headquarters Washington D C.� In 1901 ownership of Cocoanut Grove passed from Standard Oil Company to Jardine Matheson who leased it back to Standard Oil Company during World War I because they did not have enough room for their production at Belleair beach. It reverted back to Jardine Matheson upon cessation of hostilities however during World War II due largely to America's need for additional defense supplies especially rubber tires which were produced at Belleair beach during those days before synthetic materials became available� After World War II Cocoanut Grove reverted back again �this time as an advertising agency.� With all these changes over time there has been almost no continuity or consistency within either community voices or physical settings associated with either past/present/future efforts������ cocoanuts remain important aspects������ even though tourism revenue continues decline.� Today cocoanuts generate about two-thirds (72%)of local economic activity; only 14% comes from services such as dining, lodging, golfing and shopping.� This lack thereof consistency can be seen throughout much like life here too--It seems everyone knows everything about cocoa but nobody ever tells you how it gets made.� One man who does seemto know something about cocoa manufacturing is Arturo Ortiz; he used to work at Pabst Brewing Corporation where he learned how fermentation takes place among other things.� As far as I can tell Arturo doesn't actually sell anything anymore but his knowledge still lives on thanks mostly to youtube videos he makes about cocoa manufacturing ����

Cocoa, Florida is a small town located in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. Cocoa is first mentioned as "Coccinella" on December 12th of 1565 by Giovanni da Verrazzano in his journal. In 1821, John Smith found coconuts growing wild there and named it after him. The area that now makes up Cocoa was first settled by Africans who were brought over to work on the plantation of Captain James Cook in 1778-79. They were free people and spoke their own languages before being baptized into Christianity. When white settlers started arriving from Georgia in the early 1800s they began to buy land around Jacksonville and freed the slaves there in 1819. By 1836 most of what we now call Cocoa had been developed as a farming community with plantations scattered throughout the region. However, when gold was discovered near Fort Sumter on April 12th of 1845 all hell broke loose because Pirates were raiding Spanish ships off Cape Canaveral looking for treasure! Gold fever ran high and many people rushed to prospect for mines while others built towns around them just to be close to potential wealth! When war started in 1861 things changed drastically for everyone involved including the black slaves who had been bought and sold like livestock during America's time of slavery. Many African Americans decided to stay put rather than risk being taken away by Confederate forces or living through another round of Jim Crow Laws that would follow their emancipation only two decades later After Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 all slaves were immediately Freed except those who chose not to leave their homes or families behind Some areas (such as parts of Duval County) never got rid of slavery completely but instead became slaveowning territories which reference can still be found today such as Bay News Harbor which is also home to Clearwater Beach In 1969 Cocoa merged with neighboring Everglades City creating one city with a combined population of almost 60,000 people Today you can find restaurants, nightlife, shopping centers and churches right next door if you're looking for something different then just outside Orlando
