Clermont, Florida is a small town in Central Florida that has been around for over 100 years. The town was founded by J. D. Payne and his family in 1891. It was named after the French village of Cormeilles, which was located about twenty miles from Clermont. The Payne family ran a grocery store and local school before they started manufacturing holsters in 1912. The first holster made by the Payne Manufacturing Company was called the “Packard” holster and it consisted of two straps with a leather loop on one strap and a metal clip on the otherstrap to hold the gun in place. In 1916, J.D. Payne III bought out his father’s company and renamed it the Payne Holster Company. The town of Clermont, Florida is a small community located in Polk County, Florida. It was founded by Captain John Wesley Powell in 1853. The first Baptist church was built in Clermont in 1854. The first school was built in Clermont in 1855 and the first store was established there in 1861. The post office was established at Clermont on November 12, 1862, and the first doctor to be licensed to practice medicine there was Dr. Wm Hennessey on October 2, 1865. In 1870, the population of Clermont reached 575 people. In 1903, the name of the town changed from "Clermont" to "Clermonte". The growth of farming and ranching led to a decline in population during World War II because many people were drafted into military service and did not have time to live hereabouts. From 1945 until 1959, when it became part of Polk County again, Clermont had a total population of just seventy-four people. However, due to increased immigration from Latin America during that time period and an increasing number of retirees living near Orlando (due to its attractiveness as a retirement center), the population began growing once more beginning in 1959 until 2003 when it peaked at 1,827 residents. Today's population is just under 1,500 residents with most growth coming from new development around I-4 corridor which has direct access to Interstate 4 via exits 191A/191B southbound/northbound and 201A/201B eastbound/westbound making it one of the most active areas for economic development within Polk County In recent years much attention has been paid to efforts being made by local governments throughout Central Florida towards creating cultural attractions unique unto themselves - such as art galleries or wine tastings - this focus often stems from desires by businesses adjacent thereto for greater visibility so they may attract higher levels of traffic; however no matter what form these attractions take or how frequently they are opened (or closed) their impact remains palpable given their relative rarity among other large metropolitan areas across Central Florida Since its establishment as an unincorporated community within Polk County some thirty years ago little tangible progress has been made regarding developing infrastructure necessary for hosting events such as dances or parades; furthermore an alarming trend seems emerging whereby vital social services like firefighting are now often outsourced through contractors who provide only emergency response services rather than long termendar services essential forResidents’ qualityof life It should come as no surprise then that when asked about their concerns specifically pertaining to government neglectfulness issues they feel very frustrated given that despite their repeated requests various City Council members seem more interested preoccupied with raising money off developers than actually helping Residents achieve anything close resembling stability Civic organizations like CLERMONTE VALLEY FESTIVAL INC., CLERMONTE TOURIST ASSOCIATION & CLERMONTE COMMUNITY COUNCIL PRESENTS: A DAY OF RECREATION will be taking place on Saturday July 3rd 2017 from 10am – 6pm at Stroud Park located off US Highway 27 north of town . This year’s theme is “Celebrate Diversity” . Costumes are suggested but not required . Clermont, Florida was founded by the Seminoles in 1837. It became a U.S. military post in 1861 and was eventually renamed Fort Clermont. In 1933, it became an air base for the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. It was closed after the war and is now used as a tourism center.
