The History of Tasers The history of tasers can be traced back to 1847 when doctor George Washington Carver discovered that electric current could kill animals with just a few jolts. He then decided to apply the same technology to humans and created the first taser, which he called an “electric cattle prod.” It was originally designed as a humane interrogation tool and was used against hostages during wartime. In 1957, two Clearwater police officers were injured while trying to arrest an armed man who had barricaded himself inside his home. The officer who was hurt tried to use his taser on the suspect but it didn’t work well so he resorted to using his fists instead. After being treated at a local hospital, he reported his experience to superiors and began development of what would become the modern taser device. The next year, clear water police officers began using tasers in their patrols thanks to research done by scientist Dr Robert Laughlin at US Navy Lab Elizabeth City Laboratory (NEL). This gave rise to concerns about potential misuse of these devices by law enforcement officials and public alike; however, no major incidents occurred until 1978 when Philadelphia Police Officer Thomas Szabo suffered death from impact injuries after hitting him with a left hand cestus while handcuffed behind his back while restrained with right hand handcuffs

Clearwater is a small town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Hollywood metropolitan area. Clearwater is located on Pensacola Bay and has a total land area of just over . The first Europeans to visit Clearwater were French traders in 1699. In 1768, Spanish captain Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo landed here with his expedition and named the bay after himself, becoming the first European to landfall in Florida. In 1821, Englishman James Aitken arrived in this area looking for new lands to explore and he named it Clearwater after his home town of Crayford in Surrey, England. Aitken's heirs sold much of what they had acquired during their exploration interests in 1829 and 1830 to John Pemberton (son of American Revolutionary War general Patrick Pemberton). The Pembroke estate extended from Pensacola Bay eastward along Umatilla Creek all the way to what is now Grady College campus on Lake Okeechobee; this included most of modern Clearwater. By 1835 however, Pemberton had long since died without leaving any children behind him so John Dillingham became proprietor. Dillingham developed one mile (1 km) of water frontage on Pensacola Bay between Live Oak Boulevard and Gulfstream Avenue into an impenetrable barrier reef known as "Dillingham’s Reef". He leased out this beachfront property from Juana Osorio de la Cruz (née Menéndez) who purchased it from him c1836-38 for $2 per year plus interest payable at 4% annual rate compounded monthly until paid off with cash or slaves she received as gifts from Spain upon her departure from St Augustine.. After Dillingham's death there was competition among several entrepreneurs for control over this valuable waterfront real estate including Wm Flagler & Sons who built a wharf on Live Oak Boulevard across from Dillingham's Reef; Elisha Pease also leased portions of land near present day Gulfstream Avenue southward which he called "Pensacola Pier"; Edward Humes leased some land extending inland along US Highway 1 including present day Boca Raton; Alfred Harbison built a shipping dock facility on Mud Island Sound north of Clearwater; while others such as Samuel Morse developed oil platforms offshore across Pensacola Bay by draining brackish waters off Manatee Island attracting large numbers of seagulls which furnished them with food
