Choking is the practice of restraining a person by placing a hand over their mouth or nose, often with a chokehold. The choking can be from any source, but is more common from using an arm or leg choke hold. The earliest known record of firearms being used to choked someone comes from 1884 when sheriff's deputies in Clearwater were called to reports of two men fighting with shotguns over a piece of candy. At the time, shotguns were not considered particularly deadly weapons and it was thought that the fight would end quickly. However, one deputy used his shotgun to strangulate the other man until he passed out. This occurred just days after rifles had been legally registered in Florida and people were beginning to use them for self-defense instead of hunting animals. As handguns began becoming more popular, chokes became less common and fatalities involving firearms increased. In 1934, then-Governor Lawton signed into law Amendments No. 2 and No. 3 which made it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to purchase or possess a firearm without having first obtained a license from the state police department; this rule was later extended to all handgun purchases statewide. As gun chokes became less common, fatalities involving firearms decreased as well, but they have continued sporadically occurring in Florida since then (although they are now extremely rare). In Clearwater there have been only two reported shootings where handguns were used as chokes – both incidents took place in 1990s when handguns were not even allowed on city streets

The first Europeans to visit Clearwater were Spanish explorers in 1565; they named it "Los Maguey" for the maguey plant that grows plentifully along the bay's coast. By 1827, all but one of these islands had been claimed by Great Britain as part of Florida land grants given to Seminole chiefs during Indian removal efforts from 1763 to 1835. With no native people living on them, clearance began for settler development in 1828 when Congress authorized building a national road through what is now Tampa Bay as part of President James K Polk's Roadto Preservation Plan In 1830, Dade County was formed from parts of Hillsborough and Pasco counties; Clearwater remained part of Dade until 1893 when it became a separate municipality within Gulf County under its own government system with a mayor/council form of government. On January 1st 1907, Clearwater incorporated as an independent city with its own police department which continues today as one of Gulf County's six law enforcement agencies During World War II USS Electric Boat 5 (EP-5) sank while operating off Clear Water Harbor while trying to stop Japanese submarines: her crew members successfully raised their submarine periscope before she sunk and all 21 men lost their lives including 3 Marines who died when their lifeboat got caught up in wreckage ashore This event has become known as "The Lost Ship".

The original settlers were farmers who raised crops such as cotton and corn, but soon realized there was potential for developing the area into a town due to its location sandwiched between two major railroad lines – one run bythe Tampa Bay Railway Company and another run bythe Jacksonville–St Augustine Railroad – making it easy to get products to market quickly and its access to both waterways offering transportation options to customers throughout south Florida
Clearwater is a city in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,316 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Clearwater's name may come from Indian Creek, which ran through the town and emptied into the St Johns River.
