Clearwater is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clearwater's economy revolves around tourism and maritime trades. The city is also home to Clearwater Marine Park and Clearwater Golf Course. The town of Fort Myers was founded in 1824 by British soldiers who were stationed in the area during the Seminole War. In 1847, Fort Myers became an act of Congress to provide for military defense of Florida against Indian attacks. In 1892, Clearwater was incorporated as a town under state law No. 914 (now called State Road 441). By 1914, it had increased its population to 24 and annexed nearby towns – including Stonington – making it one of the largest cities in Monroe County by then. In 1920, Clearwater voters approved a measure to create a fire protection district that would include all of Monroe County except for Tampa; this action helped make Clearwater one of the most developed areas in southeastern Florida at that time. The 1930s saw an increase in construction activity due to World War II and during this time many new businesses opened up including Chevrolet dealerships, movie studios and other large businesses which continue into present day as well as some smaller ones like JCPenney stores etcetera During this time many homes were built on what are now downtown streets such as 2nd Street NW & Piney Woods Drive NW cornering US Highway 97W

Clearwater is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 17,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clearwater was founded on November 22, 1892 by two brothers, Harry and John Clearwater. The original name for Clearwater was "Creekville". The first recorded mention of Clearwater comes from a map made by Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1513 during his exploration of Florida. At that time, Creekvile was an Indian village located on the St. Johns River near what is now downtown Tampa. In 1694, Englishman James Cook discovered and mapped the area around Tampa Bay while exploring Florida's coast east of what is now Jacksonville. When he returned to England in 1768 with his fleet, he reported finding "a great bay without end" extending into Lake Superior called "Tampa Bay". After reporting this discovery to King George II of Great Britain, he ordered surveyors to explore and map the area including Clearwater Harbor which lay within present-day Pinellas County when it was first surveyed in 1786 by Captain John Smith as part of his mapping expedition known as HMS Discovery under British Lieutenant Governor James Busby. The town charter for Clearwater was granted on July 2, 1892 by at least six local businessmen who pooled their money to purchase land from Jansen & Goodrich (Janes Ferry Co.) Ltd., an early transportation company which ferried passengers across the St Johns River between Fort Myers and Tampa; thence via Panama Canal to New York City (now Newark Liberty International Airport). In 1907 Captain John Storer became manager of Jansen Ferry Company; Storer renamed it American Ferries Corporation after buying out its shareholding partners (the firm still operates today as AmericanFerries). On October 26th 1907 US Naval Lt Commander Wm Kappell chartered USS Liberator(LF-1) with intention to ferry passengers and cargo between Ft Myers reef windward and Tampa Key Light House; but due shipping conditions were unfavorable they abandoned their intended route due north towards Miami instead sailing through those very difficult waters off Jupiter Atoll before anchoring at Juno Beach nearpresent day Sarasota – making one final stop just south of Jupiter Island before continuing onwards southeast alongshore past today's Fort Myers Lighthouse into today's Sarasota Bay where they unloaded their Cargo ontoshore vessels bound for Havana Cuba! This event marked the beginning of commercial passenger transport service between Ft Myers Reef windward and Tampa Key Light House.; later also services were offered between Sarasota Key Light House docks ashore alongshore modern day US mainland
Clearwater is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,157 at the 2010 census. Clearwater's original name was Mosquita Key and it has been spelled variously as Clearwater, Clevland Beach, Clearwater Beach and more recently Clearwater. It is located on the southern coast of the county at 31°14′N 80°56′W (the same latitude as Fort Lauderdale), east of I-5 and north of Miami University. The first Europeans to sight what is now Clearwater were Colón Álvarez de Avila and Gaspar de Portocarrero on November 14, 1565 while exploring the Caribbean Sea off Cuba. They named the area Mosquita Key after an Indian chief they had encountered near present-day Mobile Bay. The key later became part of Spanish dominio Columbia River Parish until 1821 when it passed from that province to Miami County under U.S." In 1795 John Stroud bought 4 acres (10 km² or 3 square miles) at what is now known as Point Road in present day Point Breeze for $1 per acre from James Willoughby II., grandson of James Willoughby I who founded Willoughbyborough Plantation in 1740 along with his brother Richard Willoughby on Manatee Island west of Tampa Bay." In 1800 James Pugh purchased land adjacent to Stroud's property for $8 per acre from Peter O'Keefe." In 1801 Pugh sold his land to John Ladd for $15 per acre." In 1802 Ladd sold his land to Andrew Jackson for $30 per acre." In 1806 Captain David Barron acquired 1/4 mile (0.6 km²) northeast corner lot from Captain Andrew Jackson for $2". Barron renamed it "Point Road" after himself which led to its current spelling "Clearwater". On March 6, 1861 Clearwaters post office opened with George Fenton as first mail carrier On October 7th 1865 Jno Hickey delivery’d a package containing 2 pistols & powder shot at 8 PM local time here... by Captn David Barron… attached are 2 coats & one hatchet blade symbolic of good luck According to federal census reports published in 1860-1870: In 1870 there were only 9 people living in town limits when they lost all their homes due Buffalo Bill Cody’s western strike; all but two moved away during that decade – including 3 men who left behind three families - one father and two sons - moving into Jacksonville . At least 5 other families also left town during this period – most notably one composed almost entirely of women “whose husbands had gone off into service elsewhere” according to historian Darlene Jorgensen Wright .
