The first rifle stocks in Casselberry were made by the father and son team of John W. Gorman and George M. Gorman. The father, John W. Gorman, started making rifle stocks in 1881 while his son, George M. Gorman, continued the family business until 1934. The company name was eventually changed to Purdey & Sons Incorporated in 1967 when the brothers merged their businesses into one organization. In 1934, Purdey & Sons moved its manufacturing operations from Casselberry to a new location within the city limits of Jupiter, Florida which later became part of Miami-Dade County.
Casselberry is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,904 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Casselberry is located on State Road 301 and ZIP code 33609. The first Europeans to explore this area were Spanish traders in 1565 who named it "Punta de la Cruz" after a mountain peak in central Spain. In 1768, Englishman James Pritchard explored the area and named it "Casa del Caballo" (House of the Horse). The name stuck and today's Casselberry derives from that original name. In 1833, surveyor George Fenton established a post office here with the name "Casselberry." He named his creek "Hernando," which means “Hernando”s Ford or “The Ford of Hernando” because he found high water at that point every year during wintertime. A few years later, he replaced Hernando with "Casselsborough" after hearing one of his neighbors speak about an estate called 'Castleborough' in Cheshire England where there was large land holdings including horses and cattle. This story may have been based on an early experience by Captain John Smith when he visited Cuba in 1675 as part of his exploration of that country for the British Crown. At some time before 1800, Captain Smith may have stopped at this location while exploring southcentral Florida along US Highway 98A near present day Hillsborough Countyline. After visitng Castlesborough on October 10th 1675Captain Smith wrote: ". . I passed over many a pretty stream which lay between us and Pensacola; but we could only go very near its mouth because we had no bridge then to carry us over." This event would occur more than two hundred miles downriver from what is now Casselberry

Casselberry is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 18,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Casselberry was James Keyes who purchased land from the Seminole Indians in 1800. He built a cabin on what is now State Road 162. The Keyes family descendants still live in Casselberry and are significant landowners there today. In 1828, Jno Vail bought 1,500 acres (560 km²) of land east of present day Casselberry and built Vail's Mill on it; this mill produced flour for local markets and also exported flour to other states. In 1834, Elisha Fenton platted what is now Casselberry on land he had bought from the Seminoles two years earlier. A post office called Fentonville was established in 1835, but no evidence remains to support its existence; it may have been disbanded some time after that date. Astorey Stonington developed around Methodist Episcopal Church which opened in 1865 as Florida's first black church and served as a center for learning about African American history and culture before any similar facilities were available elsewhere in Florida or Georgia. The church still stands today as one of the most important landmarks in town today with over 100 years of history behind it! One such landmark that celebrated its centenary last year was "The Gilded Age" attraction located at 715 NW Eighth Ave., which features period examples of architecture, artesan furniture, jewelry and more dating back to 1895 – making it one of only a few attractions nationally preserving such an interesting slice of US history! In 1916 when Vineland Manufacturing Company announced plans to close its plant down due to World War I layoffs their vice president said "We'll put up a big white cotton banner with red letters saying 'Vineland closed because war started'" This event led directly to new development along Eighth Avenue including many Modern/Contemporary dwellings being erected between Highway 95E & NW Tenth Ave., turning what once amounted to just an industrial area into one full-fledged community!
Casselberry was founded in 1854 by J.W. Cassel and his wife, Lydia. The town came about due to the discovery of a phosphate mine in nearby Springerville. The mines were soon depleted, but J.W. Cassel continued to find new deposits, which led to the town's growth. By 1870, the population of Casselberry had reached 150 people and it had a school, a post office and two stores. In 1875, the first railroad tracks arrived in Casselberry and it began to grow even more quickly as passengers started traveling to all around Florida for business purposes. In 1912, the First National Bank was founded in Casselberry and it grew even more quickly thanks to its lending capabilities and good reputation within the community. In 1916-1917, World War I caused much destruction throughout Florida; however, despite thisCasselberry remained largely unscathed as only one store (the local general store) was completely destroyed during that time frame . In 1925-1926, Hurricane Hazel caused significant damage throughout Georgia and Alabama; howeverCasselberry fared much better as only one house (the local grocery store) sustained any damage . The last major change that occurred in Cassellbery took place during World War II when many residents decided to move away from what became known as "The Town That Knew How To Do Things" due to wartime restrictions on available land . However , since most of those who left never returned home , cassellbery is still considered an unofficial ghost town today
