The first human settlement in what is now Casselberry was made in 1827 by Major David Wilkinson and his family when they crossed the Suwannee River from Georgia. The Wilkinson home still stands today and is a museum that displays items from their time in Casselberry. In 1881, the United States purchased land adjacent to present-day Casselberry from private owner Elisha J. Payne for $1,000 cash. A Methodist Episcopal Church was built on this land in 1882 and it remains today as one of the largest churches in town. In 1907, two brothers named Wickersham bought land east of town for $10 per acre to develop into a resort called “The Bayou” which would offer fishing, swimming, boating, hiking/climbing, tennis clinics/rentals (later changed to golf courses), etc., all within walking distance of each other on three large lots totaling 318 acres (113 hectares). This development became known as “CasselBerry Country Club” and hosted events such as country music concerts by Pee Wee Crayton and Hank Williams Jr., race car races at Daytona International Speedway (now Daytona International Raceway), polo matches between England's Royal Mail Cup horses and US Open golfers at Congressional Country Club near Gainesville Beachwww., NASCAR events at Talladega Superspeedway www., etc.. Today much of this property has been replaced by shopping malls or apartments but portions remain including: The Bayou; Headquarters Drive; The Lakeside Inn; Riverside Drive; Park Road West; Sunrise Boulevard www.; Chapel Street www.; Brockman Road www.; Andalusia Avenue www.; Enterprise Way www.; Orchard Place www.. In 1927 there were just six residences inCasselberry while by 2010 there are over 375 residences with an estimated population growth rate of 9%. Casselberry, Florida is a small town located in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It has been since passed down through family and friends as a story of pioneers and hard work. On December 15th 1835, Casselberry's first settler was John Rodgers who arrived with his family from Kentucky. He founded Rodgersville on the east side of present day Casselberry Boulevard.Rodgersville was one of three that were founded near what is now Pinecrest Drive in 1836 by settlers James Fenton and John Watkins. In 1839, pioneer Isaac Bowen purchased 85 acres east of present day Casselberry Boulevard from James Fenton for $1 cash plus 20 poles worth $10 each which he built himself into a comfortable home. His wife also came to live there with him for awhile before moving back to their native state of Kentucky in 1840 when Isaac became permanently ill with tuberculosis (TB). During the early 1800s much of this area was rural farmland used for agriculture or cattle raising until citrus production began to grow rapidly due to drainage improvements made by Colonel Thomas Parker during the Seminole Wars (1835-48). By 1860 about 60% of all citrus production in Citrus County had come from farming operations and only 10% from industry such as sugar cane or citrus processing plants. The first settlement in what is today Casselberry Township date back to 1843 when Welshman George Williams erected the first cabin on land that would eventually become known as Green Acres Park which still stands today across the street from Casselberry Elementary School on Orange Blossom Trail within walking distance of many businesses including KFC & Piggly Wiggly restaurants; current home address: 6409 Orange Blossom Trail Suite A2B
Casselberry is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Casselberry was Mr. John Fenton in 1851. He built a log cabin on the same site as the current building now known as the Fenton Hotel. A post office called Casselberry was established in 1857 and remained in operation until 1901. The first white person to come to what is now Casselberry was Capt. George Prentice of Jacksonville, Florida on July 3rd, 1859 when he and his family arrived with nine other passengers on board the sailing ship "Lando". They were looking for land that had been claimed by Spain but no one had yet come across it so they decided to settle there permanently instead of waiting for someone else to claim it for them. A store opened up soon after and started selling supplies like flour, sugar and bacon products which helped support local farmers during those early days. In 1865 a group of men from Jacksonville bought the land around present-day Casselberry and began developing it into a town with buildings being erected beginning in 1867 including the first schoolhouse which served as an academy until 1902 when it became known as Morrison High School (now Morrison Middle School).
