Casselberry is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The name "Casselberry" was given to the community by Elisha S. Cassel in 1892 as part of his land settlement for settlers who had been removed from their homes in Lake Butler by Colonel John Troup during Reconstruction. The first post office in Casselberry was established on March 7, 1907, and it operated until 1966. The town of Cassellberry was incorporated on February 14, 1925. The name comes from Hernando de Soto's account of an event which took place near what is now Cassellberry: "In 1536 there were three Spanish settlements on this river: Tocoanaco (Tocoa), Ponce de Leon (Ponce de Leon), and Santa Rosa del Castillo (Castilla). At that time the Apalachicola River separated these two parts of Florida; but as yet we know not how or when this division happened." Elisha Stratton deposited a claim on section 10 of , northwest corner of road 2nd Ave., east side of stream Olustee shortly after its discovery on November 6th 1855 by Jno Burtlock while prospecting for oil wells along the Holston Fork Apalachicola River southwest of present day Jacksonville,. This claim may have also included what is now Cassellberry because it would be contiguous with other grants made by Stratton to several adjoining landowners including Wm Fenton and James Dickey which are still extant today along with maps/inventories documenting Stratton's land acquisitions.. On December 8th 1855 he submitted his plan for a plantation called "Southeastern Plantation" to Akins Gourley who offered him $5000 for it but accepted only 5% cash down so . . . Akins Gourley soldStratton's share back to him for $4000 within 3 months after its presentation.. Gourley then put up another sign reading “ stratton” above door leading into stables next door where he lived until his death in 1865.. In 1865 Akins Gourley sold his interest in eastern plantation to Mose Griggs who moved it about 25 miles southwest to central Alabama known as Mobile Bayou Plantation before selling it back to Stratton again one year later for $8000 more than he paid originally...After Stratton bought Mobile Bayou Plantation he began building what became known as “Stratton House” across from bayou mouth southwest of present day casselberry which still stands today although much modified over time occupying 4 adjacent lots totaling 68 feet frontage & 43 feet depth with 3 storyKRANDALL STREET addition extending onto bayou just north & westof original house lot extending onto old STRATTON HOUSE property line providing additional street frontage beyond original lot widths giving total surface area = 432 ft² & interior room dimensions = 24x20ft living space includes large 2-story kitchen/diner&2 storiesbathroom attached southeast corneroriginal STRATTON HOUSE extended onto new lot abutting Stratton House property line going into bayou apache MAXWELL DRIVE addition extending onto old STRATTON HOUSE property line provides additional street frontage beyond original lot widths giving total surface area = 640 ft² & interior room dimensions = 30x30ft living space includes large 3-storykitchen/diner&2 storiesbathroom attached northeast cornerSTRATTTON HOUSE remains standing today despite modifications having been made over time

Casselberry is a small town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The Casselberry post office was established on October 12, 1892, and remained in operation until February 15, 1965. The first settler in what is now Casselberry was James Reese who arrived with his family from Delaware Township in 1887. In 1888 Reeses daughter married William Ahern and the community began to grow as families moved into the area for agriculture or other purposes including John E. Witherspoon who settled in 1893 and built a sawmill here which still stands today. Casselberry had its first school when it opened in 1898 under the name of Hillsboro School District No 2 with 11 students grades K-12th grade being added during 1915-1916 due to lack of space at neighboring schools Hillcrest and Whitney Elementary Schools. By 1931 there were 26 students attending school at two different schools using a combined room/flier capacity for both homeschooling parents and daycare providers working holiday hours; but by 1945 only 3 youngsters were attending Mrs Ladd’s home on Main Street while 5 others attend Mrs White’s home on Birch Road due to overcrowding within her own home classrooms consequently closing down entirely during World War II leaving just 2 residents remaining after military relocation ended their need for an educationally beneficial school District so they could work around the clock instead providing goods they couldn’t produce themselves like shoes being made from leather scraps only available from outside sources making them very affordable especially if you could afford some type of horse power farm machinery like later electric tractors which then became more affordable on world wide markets once again becoming available as electric streetcars ran regularly through this rural community allowing people not just living close by but also those living far away access to quality education without having to leave their homes) In 1951 Dr Clifford Goudreau opened North Central School which served grades PreK-12th grade adding 3rd through 8th grades until 1966 when he closed it due to increasing enrollment rates having noticed that many people coming into town seeking jobs didn’t know how to read which caused problems such as increased crime rates since many minimum wage earners simply stopped coming out learning because they knew nothing about our Area grading standards going up gradually starting with 4 years old kids getting Valedictorian diplomas (a pre–kindergarten diploma) rather than continuing thru 9th grade high school resulting eventually giving way too much educational opportunity leading some dropouts finding new opportunities while others simply gave up trying altogether thus achieving “One Dropout Town Syndrome” whereas before most people would try something new once they found success then keep trying less risky approaches ever succeeding over timeIASPOC Hallmark Store located across US Highway 90 east of I-10 exit 191B annexationLot 1 size 10x14 Lot 2 size 7x13 lot 3 size 6x9 lots 4 & 5 sizes 5x8 each
Casselberry was founded in 1845 by John Cassel and his wife, Sarah. The town became a cotton plantation center after the discovery of cotton fields in the area. The first courthouse in Casselberry was built in 1857. In 1865, the town was burned down by Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War.
