Casselberry is a small town in Polk County, Florida. It was founded in 1892 by Captain John Neely and his family. The first gun store in Casselberry opened in 1905. The town's economy was based on agriculture until the early 20th century when it became a mining center due to its location at the base of Mount Vernon Hill. In 1916, the United States Congress passed the National Firearms Act which made it legal to own, purchase and use firearms for purposes of hunting, fishing, target shooting and militia duty. This law stimulated the growth of gun stores and manufacturers throughout the country. In 1925, Casselberry incorporated as a municipality with an estimated population of 100 residents. The town experienced significant economic decline during World War II due to its proximity to Fort Danbury and General Motors plants that produced munitions for the war effort. However, after the war ended, Casselberry began to experience rapid population growth thanks to new Hispanic immigrants who had come from Mexico City and other parts of Latin America during wartime shortages of food and clothing. By 1970, Casselbery had reached its present population size with over 1,000 residents. Today,Casselberry is home to several thousand people who enjoy participating in local businesses such as golf courses, shopping malls and restaurants; as well as hosting annual events such as Oktoberfest or Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies. The town was founded in 1885 by John Casselberry and his family. The name comes from the casks that were used to store wine in rural areas of France before Prohibition became law. The Casselberry wines are made from Spanish oak and have a fruity taste with a dry finish. In addition to wine sales, the Casselberry Vineyard produces fresh produce such as grapes, apples, tomatoes and eggs. In 1886 John's great-grandfather built the first frame house in Casselberry which he named "Hickory House". Today it still stands as one of the oldest houses in town and has been rented for many years by various families including those who live today on its property. The Hickory House also served as an important meeting place for local farmers during early Casselberry history. On October 14, 1886, voters passed a resolution authorizing county commissioners to establish schools within their respective districts. This vote helped lay the groundwork for what would become Cassellbery Elementary School which opened its doors in 1888. On November 6th 1870 partitioned Polk County into two parts based on land ownership - one being Polk County (north) and one being Orange County (south). North Polk County was annexed into Orange County while south Polk County remained within cattleowns of James Hargrave & Co.(today known as Hargrave Farms). After this event much of north Polk’s vineyards were lost due to development east of US Highway 80 however some still stand today producing some of our most popular wines like “Cassellbery” red wine and white grape sparkling wine offered by our winery visitors are free to taste if they purchase any bottle(s) from us at least once during your visit!
Casselberry was founded in 1892 by J.B. Cassel and his wife, Emma. The couple named their small town after a casks of whiskey they had bought from a man in Kentucky. In 1907, the Cassels donated land to the city for a municipally-owned baseball park and also donated $100 for the city's first library.
