Casselberry was founded in 1868 by John Cassel and his family. In 1907, the name of the town was changed to Cassellsboro after its founder's brother-in-law, George Washington Cassell. In 1959, it became a city and in 1972 it merged with neighboring Clearwater to become one of only two cities in Florida that are both incorporated as towns (the other being Jacksonville). The economy of Casselberry is based on agriculture and retail trade. The town has a small grocery store and three convenience stores. There are also five MVPD schools in the community: one through Stonington High School; one through South Park Middle School; one through Westfield Elementary; and one through Greenbrier Middle School. There are also four churches in Casselberry: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1889), Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1912), Baptist Churches of America (founded 1915), Catholic Parish of Saint Joseph Chapel/Church No 2 (established 1951), and Pentecostalism International Fellowship Bible Chapel (founded 1984).

Casselberry is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was first settled in 1851 by Captain John Casselberry and his family of six settlers when they came across a tract of land that had been given to them by General James Wilkinson. The captain named the settlement after himself and his son John Casselberry Jr., who served as an officer in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The Casselberries were Quakers from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and their home was on what is now known as Old Town Square. In 1875, Captain John Casselberry's grandson Samuel purchased 8 acres (3 hectares) of land from Major George Mclntyre for $2 per acre. This site became known as "Casselberry Park." In 1907, Samuel sold another piece of land to A.M. Morse for $10 per acre which became known as "Morse Place." In 1925, Dr Wilhelm Schulz bought 3 acres (1 hectare) from Captain John Casselberry for $5 per acre and began to develop it into a farmstead called "Schulz Place." In 1931 he donated 5 more acres (2 hectares) to the town for development into a parkland setting with streams running through it called "Casselberry Lake." In 1936 Dr Arnold Schmidt donated 10 more acres (4 hectares) to the town for development into a large shopping center with its own shopping mall and office buildings named "Cassellbery Center." The name change followed local demand following World War II when most firms located near major airports changed their names after being bombed or occupied by Germany or Japan during that conflict. After years of development work at CASELBERRY CENTER/SHOPPING PLACE & GARDEN/SILK RIVER RESORT - cassellbery center was opened on October 25th 1948 by Mayor Robert Larkin alongwith much appreciated support from citizens including Mrs Della Hargrave who cooked all day long on opening night
Casselberry was founded by two brothers, George and Isaac Casselberry in 1824. The Casselberries operated a sawmill and several stores. They were forced to flee the Seminole Wars because of their military service. They moved to Florida in 1836, where they opened a store on Clearwater Bayou. In 1840, they married Julia Ann Pope. The couple had six children: four sons and two daughters. In 1851, they bought land at the mouth of Indian Creek and built a house which served as their family home until 1923 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1865, the Casselsberrys donated farmland to the University ofFlorida in order to make room for dormitories.
