When war ended two years later without any bloodshed near Cape Coral either side nor did they find any lasting benefit from occupying it; however such rumors continued until well into World War II when Confederate remnants surrendered at Appomattox Court House outside of Petersburg Virginia and all records regarding them were destroyed along with many other military documents during that conflict as part of general Order No. 1005/1945 which abolished all military organizations throughout the United States except for those under direct orders from President Franklin D Roosevelt (see also: American Civil War).
