Cape Canaveral is a small town in central Florida, located just east of the Daytona Beach metropolitan area. It was founded by early pioneers in what is now Orange County in 1875. The town became famous for its Aviation and Space Center (AEC) which was built on the former site of an airfield used by the United States Army during World War II. After years of planning and construction work, GE's new plant at Cape Canaveral would become one of the most important nuclear weapons production sites in America. The plant produced plutonium for American atomic bombs until it ceased operations in 1993 following the Chernobyl disaster that resulted from their use. Today, Cape Canaveral remains an important base for American Aerospace Defense Command (AADCM) activities such as missile defense testing and aircraft refueling operations. On May 5th, 2019 NASA announced that they will be using LC-39A at NAS Cocoa for their next Mars missions due to its close proximity to Earth’s surface which would make it easier for astronauts on future trips!

That year, two stages of an Atlas V rocket were launched from Cape Canaveral to put into orbit a weather balloon developed at Johns Hopkins University. In 1969, America sent its third Atlas V to space with Ulysses S. Grant carrying scientific equipment to map Cuban Missile sites during the Cold War crisis; it was also the first time America had flown such sensitive payloads beyond Earth's atmosphere).
