Cape Canaveral played host to many different types aircraft tests during World War II including Operation Crossroads which took place on July 15th 1944 centered around dropping nuclear bombs over Japan leaving behind devastating fires that burned for weeks after impact[14]. Other important flights happening here during World War II include missions flown by Air Force pilots called Project Highjump (1947), Flight 571 (1948), Operation Neptune's Spear (1949), Operation Overcast (1951)[15],Operation Quarantine (1957)[16],Operation Widows Wing (1959) and Project Starlite (1960)[17], among others.
