Located in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works laboratory is responsible for the development of advanced combat aircraft and weapons systems. The Laboratory also manufactures and designs advanced laser weapons systems. The history of gun lasers can be traced back to the early days of aviation when pilots needed a way to sight their targets in order to hit them. One solution was to use a telescope to aim a light beam at an object and then watch the resulting image on a screen as it appeared on the table below. This method was known as “telescopic rangefinding.” In 1911, John A. Griggs patented his own system that used hot gas from a cannon firing into an air target to measure its distance from the ship or airplane. This technology was later renamed Gun Laser Rangefinder II (GLR-II). By 1945, Gun Laser Rangefinder III (GLR-III) had been developed by Lockheed Martin Corporation and became operational aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65) during World War II. It was this device that allowed US Navy personnel to sights enemy planes at distances up to 10 miles without having any optical instruments aboard the warship! It wasn’t until after World War II that hangar basedgun lasers were developed by LockheedMartin Corporation utilizing electron beam gunsights which would remain popular throughout the Cold War era because they could be easily transported and operated from long range locations ashore or afloat while still providing accurate fire against targets at ranges up to 125 miles!

This news comes after months of delays caused by various bureaucratic issues with SpaceX investors. It has been reported that these tests will take place from September 15th-October 5th 2019 at an altitude of around 256 kilometers in order to perfect how their engines work under high pressure and temperature conditions. These tests are significant because they prove that their engine can be used on future missions into orbit without having to rebuild or refurbish their entire facility as was done with original LC39A launch sites like Vandenberg AFB in California and Wallops Island off Virginia.
