Callaway, Florida is a town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. As of the 2016 census, it had 4,912 residents. Callaway's history can be traced back to 1892 when two brothers founded Callaway Manufacturing Company on a farmstead east of Tampa. The company manufactured golf clubs and other sporting items. In 1951, the company became Callaway Golf Corporation and began producing golf equipment including carts and rangefinders.In 1970, Callaway merged with PGA Tour member Odyssey Golf Corporation to form PGA TOUR Incorporated. This led to increased production capacity at their facilities as well as new marketing opportunities for their products which helped them become one of the largest golf companies in the world by 1992.The original Calloway Plantation still stands today; it is home to the Callaway Museum which tells its story from beginning to end and features more than 20000 artifacts from across different years of Callway history. Many residents chose to stay and rebuild; however some left behind their homes as well as all their belongings which would need to be hauled away after Floyd passed over them; this resulted in what has come to be known as “The Haul-Away” phenomenon. On October 14th of that year there was another evacuation event during Hurricane Wilma which left many people stranded on higher ground due to intense damage done by Wilma within minutes after landfall; this event also resulted in what has come to be known as The Haul-Away phenomenon because many people chose not to leave their properties until much later in the night when conditions were better for doing so In early 2004 an incident occurred at a local high school where teenage girls were caught between classes and teachers trying unsuccessfullyto get them down off the roof while students were taking a break for lunch caused a large traffic jam on County Road A1A leading up from Interstate 495 just outside of town limits. This led one resident who saw it happen describe it as "thelargest school prank I've ever seen".
