Callaway, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. Callaway is located on State Road 12S, about an hour east of Tampa and 20 minutes west of St Petersburg. The name "Callaway" means "place where I can gather wild onions." The first settler in what is now Callaway was George Hines who arrived in 1836 from Maine. He platted the town on land that he owned and which he donated to Polk County for development as a farming community with roads and schools. A post office called Callaway was established in 1839, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1907, the Callaway Railway Company built a railway line through the town from US 2 to CRT 3 which ran parallel to US 27/SR 129/CRT 1 (now state Route 6). This railway also served as a commercial artery linking Callaway with nearby towns such as Spring Hill and Dunedin. The railway closed down circa 1951 when it became necessary for road construction nears by. During World War II, Callaway played an important role as a munitions manufacturing center due to its proximity to both Tampa Bay Naval Base and Fort Myers Naval Air Station (now NAS Key Largo). In early 1945 there were over 100 kilos of explosives stored at locations around town including Franklin's Furniture store on South Ave., Abe's Hardware Store on Highland Ave., Ralston's Drugstore off Central Ave., Amalgamated Elks Lodge #5 on Ayres Ave., Sam Rayburn Auditorium on Main Street (present day SR 12S), Waffle House across from Clearwater High School (now Clearwater Middle School) and various other businesses dotted around downtown areas used for storage or production during wartime times. calloway florida

Callaway is a town located in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Callaway community was founded by white settlers in 1854 as a small post office called Redlands. When Orange County was created in 1907, Callaway became one of its first towns. In 1924, Callaway incorporated as a city and on July 1, 1951 it became an official county seat with the creation of Sanford. In 1960, when Volusia County was created, Callaway joined it and has been its county seat ever since. The history of Callaway can be traced back to 1854 when white settlers arrived in what is now Brevard County looking for land to settle. They named their new community Redlands after their original plan to build a sawmill on the Seminole River but were met with fierce resistance from local Native American groups who considered this area theirs for centuries. After some skirmishes and several days of battle the whites withdrew and never returned; they left behind two plows that still stand today in Redlands’ central square today known as "Plowed Square." In 1885 Methodist missionaries came to preach Christianity to Indians living around Redlands so soon after Indian Removal which ended over 200 years of Indian rule over parts of Florida including Brevard County where most natives were forcibly removed during “the Trail of Tears” from east Tennessee in 1795-96 under orders from General Andrew Jackson and his cabinet led by Secretary of War James Ketchum ( later US Senator ). The native chiefs surrendered unconditionally at Fort Pickens near Mobile Bay without any fight or bloodshed – something which outraged many Americans watching events unfold because they saw this as yet another example of Native American custom being violated without consequence whereas European Americans had always been operating freely within Indian Country according to treaties dating back thousands OF YEARS! When these missionaries arrived there were already about 25 pioneer families living at Redlands; they quickly built up a large rural community based largely on agriculture with schools, churches and general stores serving those who lived there until annexation into Sanford by Orlando in 1924 following World War I . As early as 1885 much development took place within what would eventually become downtown redlands including: A store/general store (now defunct), schoolhouse/church (now gone), cotton gin (no longer extant), hotel/motel (opened 1922) & more! By 1904 there were also homes built onwhat would become State Road 43 northwest corner intersection now occupied by Citrus Park Mall! After annexation Sanford experienced rapid growth due primarily to military spending during World War II followed by postwar prosperity which brought jobs & investment both here & elsewhere throughout Brevard Counties resulting in even more people moving into town establishing businesses such as banks (& other financial institutions), law enforcement agencies (& judges) etc.; all while keeping downtown redlands vibrant with arts & culture happening right alongside it! With population growth continuing unabated through the late 20th century & beyond 2 Chainz music video shot outside his then current location - right across State Road 43 just southwest Corner Plaza Shopping Center from 2006-2009 - started making waves here locally leading some folks (& experts*) to believe he may have actually been filmed or set down inside old City Hall building adjacent thereto while others speculate that this could be proof positive that adjacent property sovereignty issues between various communities along SR 43 are not resolved fully…? callowayflorida
