Callaway was founded in 1903 by W.B. Callaway and his son, Jerry Callaway, who also founded the now defunct Callaway Golf Company. The first golf course in the town was designed by George P. Mickelson and opened in 1905. In 1928, Harry Vardon became the first professional golfer to play at Callaway Golf Course when he played a round of eighteen holes there with newlywed Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. In 1959, Bob McDermott became the President of Callaway Golf Company after starting it as a smallMorningstar company. At that time, Callway had over 350 employees including many top-level golfers such as Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino. Callaway, Florida is a small town in Broward County, Florida. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Callaway was created by combining two previous towns: Hialeah and Belle Glade. The name "Callaway" comes from a white man's name for both of these towns - John Callaway. The first store in Callaway opened in 1892 and was run by local farmers. By 1924, the first power company had built a substation near Callaway and businesses started popping up all over town! In 1951, Callaway became the county seat of Broward County when Hialeah was annexed into it. Businesses continued to grow throughout the years until the late 1990s when Hurricane Andrew destroyed most of downtown Hialeah and many businesses closed down as well. In 2000, after more than 25 years without an elected official, residents voted to form their own government with Mayor Tim Kapp as its first mayor. Throughout the next few years, various committees were formed to improve community services such as welfare reform and land use planning; however little progress was made until 2003 when Kapp ran for re-election and won with 54% of the vote against opponent Rudy Giuliani’s 42%. Kapp continued his work during his second term which ended on January 1st 2006 after spending $4 million dollars on campaign ads alone (an amount that would have been impossible to spend if he had not run for office). On January 3rd2006, Kapp announced his retirement effective February 28th 2006 citing health reasons but leaving much unfinished business including plans for new municipal buildings (a project that has yet to be completed) and developing new housing projects within Live Oak Village which includes 511 homes located north of I-10 between US-1A & US-1B

Callaway is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville–Lakeland–Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Callaway community was founded in 1892 by John A. Callaway and his wife Susie as a small farming village on the east side of Lake Okeechobee. In 1907, when the state of Florida acquired all of Polk County, Callaway became one of its newly created townships. However, most of the original buildings were destroyed by a fire in 1922 that burned much of town center and killed many people including Mrs. Callaway and her three daughters-in-law. In 1951, potassium iodide was discovered in water supplies in nearby Plantation and Clearwater counties after fallout from nuclear testing in Nevada had contaminated those areas with radioactive elements found also in Japan following World War II; this led to calls for more caution about using water sources near Nuclear Power plants due to concerns about potential health risks from radiation exposure (the contamination continued into the early 21st century). As a result of these recommendations, Mayor Jerald Witherspoon established an environmental control board chaired by then Governor Claude Pepper to regulate energy production and use throughout Florida. "The calloway way" refers to traditional methods used for harvesting honeybees including bottom hive operations (where hives are placed across several feet deep so that bees can build comb) which is how it's collected today; however apiary Supplies no longer sources bottom hive operations because they are not effective or safe when dealing with neonicotinoid pesticides." The current name given to Callaway comes from two aspects: "calloway," meaning "honeycomb", and "way," meaning "route". This name originated with John A. Callaway who wanted to commemorate his purchase land north of Tampa Bay where he built his first home (now known as Old Town Hall). He named his new community after himself and his wife Susie because they had spent time there while they were honeymooning in 1893-1894
