During World War II, Callaway became a training ground for USAAF pilots based at Kissimmee Municipal Airport north of town. During this time there were also large Scale model aircraft flights out of the airport using fields behind Interstate 95 south of town which can still be seen today if you drive down State Road 441 east of town after dark! In 1957, George Reeves bought land adjacent to present day Town Center and built an apartment complex which remains one of its most prominent features today - Reeves Place Apartments! After much discussion between both parties about what type or style development should be erected on that property - it finally came down to plans for a sleek Moderne styled building with office space on one side and apartments/condos on the other side! The Callaway CDP is located on the eastern edge of Clearwater Beach and includes most of what is now Callaway Township. It was named for George W.
