Callaway is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola-Ft. Walton Beach-Santa Rosa, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Callaway is located about 18 miles (29 km) south of Pensacola and 12 miles (19 km) north of Santa Rosa. The land that now makes up Callaway was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. A post office called "Calloway" was established in 1824, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1865, David O'Connell built a mill on what is now Main Street in Callaway after purchasing land from the Spanish government for $1 million dollars. The mill produced cotton gin products such as blue jeans and T-shirts for American soldiers during World War II. In 1949, Joe Frazier won his only professional boxing match at what would become known as "The Battle of Evergreen Field". This fight took place at Miami's old Hollywood Casino which had been renamed to "The Fairgrounds" due to violence being common there at the time between fans and wrestlers/boxers vying for attention from promoters overflowinG with interest in seeing their favorite bouts outdoors on large stages In 1951 an additional building became necessary when the original mainstreet building began to show wear and tear from years of use as a grocery store; this new structure still stands today adjacent to Interstate 10th Avenue just east of US 41st Street near Moreland Driveway In 1957 John Daly won his only major championship when he defeated Arnold Palmer 6–4 at Glendale Community College's stadium – still one of sport's most famous venues In 1978 Don Frye became baseball's first African American manager when he succeeded Bob Boone after Boone resigned from his position with the Baltimore Orioles

After years of growth, Callaway incorporated as a village in 1907. In 1959, Callaway became a city and has since grown to include over 60 buildings and more than 100 residents. The history of Callaway began with George Calloway, who settled in the area in 1892. As an early settler, Mr.Calloway developed land around his home for farming and trading purposes. He also helped found two other villages within our current city limits: Allendale in 1907 and Clearwater Beach in 1959- both were later annexed into the larger city of Tampa. In 1957, when it was decided that Tampa would become a metropolitan area, Mayor John McKay designated portions of downtown as areas for comprehensive redevelopment including land now occupied by the City Hall Annex building (formerly known as the Pinellas County Courthouse), Calhoun Square Shopping Center and much of present-day Callaway Boulevard between Third Street SW and Fourth Street SE! This new vision called for enlarging what had originally been just a small part of downtown – now known collectively as “the central business district” or CBD! This exciting redevelopment project not only created many new jobs but resulted in significant changes to the character of downtown which today is one continuous mixed use environment with high-quality retailers and restaurants providing quality shopping experiences while preserving historic landmarks like the Municipal Building (now known as City Hall) and Calhoun Square Shopping Center! Today’s CBD is home to some of North Hillsborough County’s most popular tourist destinations such as Disney Springs Resort & Hotel - which features more than 45 unique retail stores - Atlantic Palms Marina - featuring 12 career-centered job clusters - Stonington Mall - anchored by JCPenney/ Macy’s/ Sears/, Sam's Club / Ulta / Nordstrom/, Lowes/ Home Depot/, pumps from Lowe’s Hardware Store Inc./Old Navy!/ Staples/, golf courses from PGA TOUR Champions San Juan Islands Golf Course Inc., etc.;and several parks including Stone Park Zoo; all topped off by an impressive skyline view from Times Square Complex!. It should be noted that this vibrant CBD fell victim to several devastating fires starting back in 2007; however these have since been extinguished through arson prevention efforts spearheaded by our fire department along with donations from local businesses!
