Bradenton, Florida is a city located in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 765 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is named after Commodore John Braden who founded Fort Myers in 1810. The city began as a small military post on the east coast of present day Sarasota County in 1811 by Commodore John Braden and his men while they were exploring the area that would become Florida. The community grew rapidly with enlistments from local farmers and merchants to help protect their land during Indian Wars and other conflicts which took place throughout the region at that time. In 1834, Charles Wetherbee donated 120 acres (49 hectares) of land to establish what would become Bradenton as an agricultural village with stores, churches, schools and a jail. The town continued to grow until it reached its current boundaries in 1892 when it amalgamated with neighboring Fort Myers for economic reasons following annexation of both towns by Miami Dade County. By 1890, there were over 1,000 people living in Bradenton within its limits including 5 businesses which accounted for almost three-quarters of all activity within the town limits at that time! In 1912, Captain James Auld established JAX Airways as a commercial airline service out of Palm Beach International Airport serving passengers from Tampa Bay and Jacksonville FL through Bradenton Island - now part of Broward County - making it one of first commercial airlines serving large metropolitan areas in America! In 1925 JAX became Orlando's first major scheduled airline when they served destinations throughout Central Florida including Orlando International Airport! Today JAX Airlines continues to serve passenger needs through severalFloridagateways including Jacksonville Intl., Daytona Beach International Airport & Clearwater/St Petersburg International Airport! During World War IIBradenton played an important role as both an airfield used by fighter planes training pilots during Battle Of Coral Gables off Key Largo FL home to US Navy Air Station Miramar (later Naval Air Station Tampa)and as headquarters for Army aviation units flying Liberator aircraft ferrying troops acrossthe Gulf Of Mexico into combat; later becoming Plantation Field where B-29 Superfortresses based at Homestead AFB flew missions over Japan on 9/25/1945!! Today Bradenton continues its proud historyof being one of America's "Secondaries" largest cities hosting over 1250000 people working or studying near or inside our city limits along with many smaller businesses providing essential servicesandeconomic vitalityto our great community!!!

The city is part of the Sarasota-Bradenton metropolitan area which has a population of 9 million people. The history of Bradenton can be traced back to 1836 when it was founded as a small town on the mouth of the River Manatee by Captain John Braden and his family. In 1892, the town was renamed for Rear Admiral George C. Braden who had been killed in action in World War I. As time passed, other residents moved into the town and it became increasingly commercialized with new businesses popping up all over downtown including an insurance company and a bank. By 1960, most of what is now downtown had been built and businesses began expanding out into eastern neighborhoods that were not served by downtown. In 1980, same year as University of Miami's (UM) arrival in Sarasota County, City Hall was moved from its original location on Elm Street to present day First Avenue near State Road 7 which made it possible to expand muchneeded services like libraries and parks into eastern neighborhoods that were not served by downtowns before while also increasing access to jobs and resources for those east of First Avenue including northeast side streets such as Signal Hill Road that are now home to several high-end homes developments In recent years there have been several large projects announced or completed in or around Downtown Bradenton including: In November 2018, construction started on an $87 million mixed-use development called "City Center" across from UM's campus which will include office space, residential units, retail spaces and more than 12 acres of parkland In January 2019 construction started on another mixed-use project called "Aurora" just south of First Avenue between US 41st Street and Gulfstream Boulevard that will include office space, residential units and more than 20 acres of parkland
