Bradenton, Florida is a city in the Miami metropolitan area, on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 781,545 at the2010 census. It is located on the Bradenton Beach Peninsula, bordered by Fort Myers to the north and east, Naples to the south and west, and Sarasota to the northwest. According to Forbes magazine's list of "The 30 most Liveable Cities", it is also one of "America's Most Diverse Cities". The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Bradenton were French colonists who founded Point Comfort in 1768. In 1836 Spanish settlers arrived from Puerto Rico and began construction on an original Presidio for a new colony called Santa Fe de Veracruz. The fort was abandoned by 1837 after a series of hurricanes destroyed much of its infrastructure. A small community developed around Fort Myers within two years of its establishment as part of Santa Fe de Veracruz; this community became known as Bradenton because it was only 10 miles (16 km) from Fort Myers. At first slaves worked on local plantations but this changed with emancipation in 1865 when many freedmen moved into Bradenton seeking better opportunities than they had experienced in Cuba or Georgia. In 1886 landowner John Ponce De Leon settled near present-day downtown Bradenton with his family and began developing what would become Ponce Citywalk which includes several hotels including The Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons Resort & Spa; several large retail stores such as JCPenney and Sears; as well as civic buildings including City Hall, Library Building, Recreation Center and Municipal Stadium where baseball games were played until 1984 before being switched to football. In 1898 Sam Seabrook purchased some land along present day Military Road close to Ponce Citywalk for use as an amusement park which became known as Seabrook Park during World War II before becoming eventually known as Tampa Bay Times Park following that organization's purchase of adjacent property in 1949). After World War II growth slowed due largely to Korean War veterans returning home without jobs while other Factors such as education prices increasing made housing more difficult to afford for many residents while still others decided against moving back after experiencing rapid transformation during that time period throughout South Florida During 1960s revisions appeared at both central government levels resulting then changes at every level making it one massive experiment all together starting out slowly with individual towns trying ordinances change then expanding rapidly across state lines creating ever growing bureaucracies unheard of even today In 1969 state legislators created county governments instead each electing multiple commissioners who served staggered four-year terms plus 1 year mayoral term which included possibility for recall if not liked by citizens plus various other powers granted under different statutes like building permits could be issued only through countywide vote not just town hall wherein occurred frequently When voters returned their elected officials they were vested with unique power like we have now State Senators rather than appointed delegates meaning they are answerable directly to no one no matter how popular they may become thereby giving them ultimate control over anything going on inside their respective districts regardless whether or not majority occurs through referendum etc connecting everything we do here back here statewide so our politicians never really leave us alone especially since there’s nothingcking stopping them from doing anything they want anytime
