In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Braxton Bragg attacked Tampa Bay Naval Station with 9 ships full of supplies bound for Mobile Bay; all but one were destroyed by Union forces under Admiral David Dixon Porter before they could reach their destination. This event is famously known as "Porter's Raid". On July 4th 1865, Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia following his surrender at Petersburg Peninsula on April 12th 1865 On November 14th 1898 an armistice ended World War I when Japan signed an agreement with Russia that allowed Japan to annex Korea without war while still officially allied with Great Britain The last battle between US Marines and Japanese Navy took place off Cape Sabin on October 26th 1942 during World War II known as Battle of Coral Sea In 1957-1958 two new stadiums were built: Raymond James Stadium which seats over 80,000 people (now called Raymond James Stadium/BankAtlantic Center) and Joe Robbie Stadium which seats over 66,000 people (now called Sun Life Park). These stadiums are now used primarily for professional football matches although some concerts have been held there also including One Direction’s 2013 headlining show . On January 13th 2009 it was announced that Citrus Bowl would be moving from Orlando Int'l Airport to downtown Bradenton due to budget cuts within Citrus Bowl Management Company Inc.. However this move failed to make much impact as attendance had decreased significantly since its move fromOrlando airport In March 2018 it was announced that EverBank Field will host a game between Clemson University Tigers vs Alabama Crimson Tide scheduled for September 25th 2020 however this game pulled out due to intense rain storms that hit Florida that week

Bradenton is a town in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 30,311 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now Bradenton was first populated by Eclectic Seminole Indians and then by American colonists who founded the town in 1821. The town's namesake, James A. Braden, donated land to the town for its establishment and served as sheriff from 1827 to 1830. In 1836, he donated an additional block of land to the town for use as a public square and also built two churches and a few other buildings in what is now downtown Bradenton. In 1898, after several years of development work led by noted developer Jesse Fertitta and his brother Edward Fertitta, Bradenton became one of America's first city limits when it was annexed by Tampa. By 1912 it had reached its present size with over 100 businesses located on six blocks between State Road 9 and US 1A (later I-75). On July 1, 1925 – just days before St Petersburg gained cityhood – Bradenton officially became part of that larger city when it amalgamated with Tampa along with all of Pinellas County except St Petersburg proper which remained separate until 1959. At this time residents of both cities were referred to simply as "Tampaans". In 1963 Interstate 488 was completed connecting Tampa to Orlando via Branson Island; at this point most people inBradenton considered themselves east coast residents only since their ZIP code refereed them to St Petersburg proper on the west coast (though parts of eastern Polk County still refer to themselves as "Tampa"). However some locals started calling themselves "Bradentowners" because they considered themselves citizens of both cities even if they lived only in one or the other at any given time. In recent years much effort has been made by both sides - especially those living within urban areas -to update their respective constitutions so that everyone resident in either city can be called "city person" rather than just "tampaan". Due largely to efforts spearheaded by Mayor Bob Buckhorn post Hurricane Irma damage done throughout much central Sarasota area including parts near downtown Bradenton total destruction exceeds $140 million dollars damage caused mostly due direct hitches/injuries/damage not related directly or proximately to Irma such things like power outages etc., former Mayor Rick Kriseman announced he will run for mayor again next year against Buckhorn running as an independent
