It is part of Tampa Bay area and is home to the University of South Florida (USF). The city was founded in 1884 as a railroad town on Muskegon Heights Boulevard. The region now known as Bradenton was first inhabited by Timucua Indians. In 1666, Spanish explorers discovered this area and named it "Vilcabamba". In 1884, Railroad magnate Henry Flagler built a railway from Tampa to St Petersburg and renamed the town Bradenton after himself. The rail line passed through what is now downtown Bradenton with depot and passenger terminals at both ends. The original downtown core consisted of a single-story building called "The Loop" that served as a depot and passenger terminal until 1918. Downtown business districts were developed around two post offices: one on Third Street east of Center Avenue and another on First Street west of Center Avenue. These business districts remain today but have been largely replaced by new neighborhoods development in the central cores of downtown Bradenton since then. Bradenton, Florida is a city in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sarasota-Bradenton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded by American Revolutionary War veteran and citrus grower George Braden on November 15, 1835 as "Bradenton." In 1868 the name was changed to Sarasota and again in 1903 to Bradenton. On July 1, 1959, the city became an unincorporated area within Sarasota County. A post office called Bradenton was established in 1835, and remained in operation until 1958. The first settlers were farmers coming from New England who set up homes along US-1F (later US-1). By 1840 there were already several stores and four residences in town. A sawmill began operations near present day downtown on what is now State Road 706 just east of I-75/SR 20 because logs took so long to be cut down to size that they had trouble getting through the mail system fromBoston! It wasn’t until after America’s Civil War that transportation became available for goods transported overland between Tampa Bay (to the north) and Jacksonville (to the south). This led to a new era of growth for Bradenton as shipping companies started calling at Juanita beach for supplies then driving all night back across state lines! The boom days ended with World War II when ships stopped calling at Juanita beach because it was military airspace which made it safe for planes only! With no commercial traffic using Juanita Beach anymore during much of the late 1800s it experienced a rapid decline; however business picked up when dredging started taking place nearby making access easier for boat owners looking for Venice Bay. In 1925 local developer Wernher Lammers purchased 3 miles (5 km) of shoreline extending into Venice Bay where he builtWhat would eventually become known as Miracle Mile Shopping Center & Marina with its three blocks of highrise buildings housing more than 100 stores including J C Penney & Sears. Today many businesses still call this section their anchor tenant district due to its convenient location next to Interstate 495; however most have moved away since then leaving behind a vacant lot now known as Miracle Mile Park which has been used as an event lawn by numerous events over the years including golf tournaments and car shows etcetera
