The major economic engines behind Bradenton's recent growth have been its thriving business park district which includes over 100 businesses located throughout downtown; retail corridors such as Northwest 2nd Street/Naval Air Station Boulevard and Dolphin Drive; comprehensive regional transit service through MARTA; and internationally renowned tourism destinations like Walt Disney World Park and Homestead Golf Course (both within walking distance). As new neighborhoods continue to be built downtown along Southwest 2nd Street corridor - most notably Kendall Yards - this area will become one ofSouthwest Fla.'s leading commercial districts once again!

In 1840, the town of Bradenton was annexed by Tampa. In 1907, the town of Bradenton annexed the village of Apollo Beach. On October 3, 1959, the towns of Apollo Beach and Bradenton merged to form a new city with a population of over 60,000 people. The name change became effective on November 1, 1959.
